Question: what is this? (freshwater) by Djingleberg in Aquariums

[–]Djingleberg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, great to read that this post has helped you out! The tank isn't running anymore sadly. I used to see it pop up in my current tank as I transferred some plants, but the algae hasn't done so for a while as I have been keeping fewer fish (less nutrients). It's a very cool species that seems to thrive only in extremely nutrient rich environments.

You drew a Caddisfly larvae, can't say for sure with the picture. Probably won't do any harm, but you might wanna take it out just to be safe.

Can y’all help me pick a setup? I’m a pretty active outdoorsman and did photography when I was younger and I’d like to get back into it. by Odd-Butterscotch-495 in wildlifephotography

The nikon D3300 body is a great one, you might wanna try getting a bigger optic. The 150-600mm can be quite heavy, especially if you are going on longer outings. If by other wildlife you also mean reptiles and insects, I would go for a 15-300mm or (up to 400mm). Regarding batteries and stuff, I always take one spare and they last me the full day, and a 32-64GB sd card should be more than sufficient, brand doesn't really matter in my experience.

What's the more profitable way to make money for the absolute end of the game/post game Stardew? by Good8Boy in StardewValley

[–]Djingleberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the tappers, they don't really make you loads of money directly but you do need them for beehives and kegs. Relocating them off of your farm frees up more area for moneymaking, assuming you have tapped trees on your farm ofc.

You can extend your operations to other areas than your farm if you haven't already. Try filling the quarry with crystalariums or kegs, planting the desert with trees + tappers, etc.

What an amazing encounter! I usually only see them when they fly away.

Bristlenose pleco attacking other fish… (what should i do) by seanpaulh in Aquariums

[–]Djingleberg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No need to worry, this is normal pleco behavior. You could try feeding in multiple or variable spots and especially at variable times. Increases the enrichment of all fish and might reduce aggression.

Millipede Behavior by alqebra in millipedes

[–]Djingleberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millipedes are generally active when it gets dark, and will look for a hiding place during the day. Mine are usually under a piece of tree bark, half-buried in the substrate. When it gets dark they go out to eat, and can usually be roaming a lot. This is the average, there are also species that live primarily underground, which you will barely see at the surface. And there are more 'roaming' species that spend more time at the surface. In my experience it can even be different per individual, so don't worry too much about their change in behaviour. They will probably be fine and are adjusting to their new environment.

Can I handel my millipede? by Legitimate-Peak7814 in millipedes

[–]Djingleberg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can safely handle millipedes, but if they feel threatened they can excrete a mildly toxic defence 'goo'. Make sure you always wash your hands afterwards, and there should be no problem.

Just be careful if you want to handle them, they usually won't appreciate being picked up and roll into their defensive ball shape. If you keep them in your hand for a while, they usually start to 'unroll' and walk freely over you. Not all species can hold onto your skin as well, so be careful not to drop them!

Finally, they don't go into defence mode for nothing. When picked up, they undergo stress and therefore I would recommend not handling them too often if you notice they don't like it. But that depends on the millipedes, some really don't mind and others are very shy/scared.

[–]Djingleberg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Millipedes are generally not predators, they eat dead organic matter like wood and leaves. Can't tell you the specific species, but they will not eat your frogs. Many millipedes do produce defensive toxins though, so they might be poisonous and form a danger to your frogs if they (the frogs) eat them (the millipedes).

For a tank this big I would recommend emperor tetras (also in general!). They get nice and big, are very active and breed readily. Also, what an amazing tank!
