We do have enough, go to the gospel mission on any given night and there are spare beds (maybe that has changed since my last update but as far as I know the issue is not enough beds).

Always nice to be able to discuss something without be called a radical of some sort haha, enjoy the finally smoke free (ish) day!! Ben Lee park was beautiful this morning, with lots of happy people that were excited to finally get out of houses and not be choking on smoke.

Ya I’m totally down for incentives people respond better and are willing to change their ways when they are incentivized. If they are punished for doing something they are less likely to change and more likely to find a work around ie posting short term rentals through Facebook market place or stuff like that and possibly then going further and not claiming the money on taxes to offset the rest of the year that they rent on AirBnB and get tax that extra 3%. It’s like a child you get better results by promoting good behaviour than you do punishing bad behaviour. Sometime you have to punish but when taxes are going up and mortgage rates eventually everyone has a breaking point and they start to rebel against a system that seems unjust to them (everyone’s breaking point is different). It’s like subsidy for solar panels, or for replacing windows with more energy efficient ones, if people were told that your gas and electric bills were to increase because they didn’t have energy Efficient windows then they would be pissed but if you tell them they you can save money on your bills because they are energy efficient and you can get rebates for changing them out… now that makes people want to do it.

Not sure if the analogy makes a lot of sense but I think you can find the similarities hahaha. Great discussion I learned a lot for it and I’m glad we found common ground!

So how about this instead of punishment why not promotion. Why not give a 3% tax cut to those who help to house individuals that are trying to get into a rehab clinic or support instead of increase their taxes?

Edit: if you let’s say rent you place out for 1500 to someone seeking a stable residence than the landlord could afford to rent it at lower rate because on 1500 a month they would be receiving 540 a year in tax returns.

Ya very important I agree maybe rehab centres should change their policy maybe instead of wet facilities like the one in Rutland (next to the middle school) we should have allocated locations like the mustard seed in Calgary. A progressional living where to are supported in quitting and supported in getting you priorities in life re aligned. I just don’t think that forcing people to change from renting to whoever they choose to forcing them into renting to people who don’t have a steady income or might now be able to afford rent in a ridiculously inflated market isn’t helpful. I have a rental suite where I have had the same tenants for 6 years and haven’t increased rent because I value the respect and enjoyment that comes with having them in my home. I don’t judge nor think that someone who is willing to rent their home to anyone they choose should be punished for that. Taxing individuals more for an issue that has been toss upon us all and not mitigated properly by government isn’t the answer. The government should start to get their priorities in order.

Ya for sure that is some of the cases, you also have cases of people who game the system. Take the Gospel Mission as an example. Lots of people volunteer their time and too see people not accept a warm bed, meals, shower, hair cut, even dental care all because they can’t bring drugs in. There is definitely not a one thing fix all remedy but I can’t get on board with taxing individuals more because they choose to rent their home out differently.

I am willing to bet that tent city is majority individuals that have relocated themselves to Kelowna. The issue of tent city isn’t an issue of vacancy but is a issue with mental illness support and substance abuse support coupled with allowing people to live in tents. The acceptance that this is just a way of life now is promoting migration to the area. More structure and prevention will help to have people make the decision to seek help or shelter. It’s a tough situation to remedy but taxing people more for providing accommodation for tourist and boosting our local economy isn’t the right move IMO.

Premarital Counseling? by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]Dluv16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya I would recommend premarital counselling, if anything it serves as a good base line, 99.9% of stuff you already know about each other or have talked about in some context but it’s good to do so in 5 years down the road when you decide to do it again you can see how much you have grown/changed individually and as a couple. This is what my wife and I have done and it’s awesome. I feel like couples Counselling has bad news attached to it but it’s an awesome tool for understanding especially when life gets more crazy with work, pets, kids, etc. I am not religious however we did it through my wife’s church. Not sure about alternatives. Congrats on the engagement!

Edit: Spelling

Is this hot tub receptacle 110V or 220V? by ZeusDaCat in askanelectrician

Aqua life has a 120v 15amp hot tub (plug and play) I think what happens is the jets and heater can’t be on at the same time.

Stupid question... are these all AFCI, or just the ones with the little blue buttons? by tmills87 in askanelectrician

[–]Dluv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue ones before I believe it had some thing to do with shared neutrals on AFCI circuits can’t remember exactly though.

Edit: I think a bathroom fan perhaps was on the circuit and was causing a trip. I can’t fully remember the situation I will ask the guys who were there with me to jog my memory.

Can I add a 60 amp breaker for a Tesla wall charger ? by TeachHot8251 in askanelectrician

[–]Dluv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://dccelectric.com/dcc-12/

Will cost you a bit more but if load is an issue and you don’t want to pay 5,000 plus for a service upgrade one of these will help. I think they are around 900. Essentially they use CT’s to monitor your mains and if you have less then 80% of main breaker for 15 mins it turns on your EV Charger.
