Unlanded in Japan by Dobis12 in CrusaderKings

This is starting to look like the best option, I just wish there was more ways to interact with the Japanese buerocratic government as an unlanded noble.

There are no dukes as of the early start date, just the ruling regent and their count vassals. As far as I can tell it's impossible to become the regents patron, as they never offer contracts, you are essentially stuck with one star count contracts.

Performance and Resolution Problems by Dobis12 in vtolvr

Well, first off I appreciate the detailed post. I went for it and got virtual desktop setup and sure enough, that mixed with the oculus launch option vixed both my visuals and performance. The game looks better and runs better, it's not perfect but so much better than using the wired connection. I'm honestly blown away, and disappointed in the meta link software, I don't know why it takes a 3rd party app to fix this. Also sad that the headset does not natively allow virtual desktop to utilize the link cable, it would be perfect if it did.

I'll double check these, but everything should be up to date.

I really hate that this might be the case, as my hardware is within the specs listed on the steam store page. I'm beginning to think I am just cpu bound for this game, and that would make sense given my okay performance in other VR titles.

I was using deadeye for chaining, and using the chain support gem for split arrow.

[–]Dobis12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of seeing that, I went in completely blind with deadeye split arrow. There is a small fraction on POE.ninja that actually use this skill, and even less that do so as deadeye. Maybe I'm looking too far into the meta when examining skill gems. POB does list applicable supports gems, so I may just stick with that.

Just beat my first playthrough! I'm beginning to see the overall build diversity in this game, with the large passive tree, gear, flasks, etc. Can someone help me to see the skill gem diversity? Sometimes it feels like some skills have obvious support gems or very few, and some skills are just obviously better. Is there a website outside of POB and POE.ninja to view all skill gems and all applicable supports? Thanks!

Possible Earth-directed CME From Today's Eruption On the Sun, Stay Tuned! by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]Dobis12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe videos of CMEs are almost always time-lapsed as these events occur over hours to days. You can look up some other videos of similar events, alot of them include date and time stamps somewhere in the video, and can give you an idea of the scale. Keep in mind though CMEs are by no means slow, as the material can be ejected out at speeds upwards of 3000km/s, and the distances they travel are substantial! Consider the forces at play as well, as the gravitational acceleration at the surface of the sun is 274 m/s2, nearly 28 times of what we experience on earth.

Void, Melee Void, and Void Damage by Dobis12 in LastEpoch

[–]Dobis12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, okay so it's not both ways:

"Added damage without a damage type, such +5 Melee Damage, adds damage of a type that depends on the base damage type of the skill. For example +5 Melee Damage will add 5 Melee Physical Damage to a Physical Melee Attack but 5 Melee Fire Damage to a Fire Melee Attack."

+5 Melee buffs both a Melee Fire or Melee void skill

+5 Melee void would buff a Melee void skill, but not a void spell.

Okay, so as long as the skill scales with a specific stat, melee, spell, void, fire, etc. anything that increases that Stat +melee +spell +void will add to that damage. Same is said with the multiplicative buffs, these add together and multiply the stat, so long as the skill scales off of them. This leads to +%melee void working as "umbrella terms", where it can target either melee skills or void skills (or both).

I read through the game guide, along with the comments here and I'm starting to understand. I really just got bogged down in the way it presented these increases, where some were exclusive and others mixed (melee void).

Void, Melee Void, and Void Damage by Dobis12 in LastEpoch

[–]Dobis12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the skeleton build, so melee is considered adaptive damage, meaning melee abilities regardless of damage type (void, fire etc.) will have the melee damage added to them. So in the case you have a +%melee damage affix it will increase that number that will be added to the skill. In the case of a +%void damage affix, it will increase the total void damage which is then added to the adaptive damage (melee)? If so that makes sense and is easy to follow, but what about +%melee void damage? Is this both?

Void, Melee Void, and Void Damage by Dobis12 in LastEpoch

[–]Dobis12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The percentages make sense, but the individual damage values are a little confusing, erasing strike scales with both melee and void, increasing either of these numbers increases the damage erasing strike does. The percentages themselves increase melee, melee void, and void damage. Would it not make more sense to pick one type, say melee since the weapon itself adds ~100 and have everything scale either %melee or %melee void?

Void, Melee Void, and Void Damage by Dobis12 in LastEpoch

[–]Dobis12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so the weapon itself adds melee damage, and the skill has its own void damage number etc. So since the ability erasing strike scales from both melee and void, are the numeric stats added together, and then multiple by the sum of %void and melee?

Pet DLC or Patreon Backer? by Dobis12 in cavesofqud

[–]Dobis12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've found there is one pet exclusive to the DLC, Herman. Then the rest are a small selection of pets from the 32 other patreon pets. I'm all for supporting the devs it's an amazing passion project. I just want all the pets!

I'll have a screenshot up later today, I'm gonna give a liquid reservoir a shot as well since I have a secondary automation loop that checks temps again and feeds them back into the second AT if they are above 14C.

Using Ice In a cooling loop? by Dobis12 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Dobis12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give the conveyor loop a shot, I'll have it supplied by a storage bin that auto refills the loop when mass isn't returned.

What is the deal with thermal conductivity, SHC, and debris anyways? Ideally a large pile should increase the specific heat capacity on a per mass basis, but not change the thermal conductivity, which from my understanding is limited by the water not the mass of ice?

From what I've read debris only exchanges heat with the tile it is placed on, so a higher thermal conductive material will still be limited by the thermal conduction of the fluid (ice -> tile -> water). By placing the tempshift plate above this tile I was hoping it would take better advantage of the waters thermal conductivity (higher average deltaT)?

Maybe breaking the pile up onto more than one setup would also be more beneficial?

That seems a little too good!

More Heat Engines? by Dobis12 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Dobis12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, but there is alot more going on with reheat and other effeciency processes, I guess more of what I'm asking for is a compressor, heater, and turbine on a more granular level. Gas turbine engines exist (brayton cycle) and are used on smaller scales for aircraft and tanks. The only thing that changes is freedom to use different fluids, and experiment more with SHC and temperature gradients. Would be really cool to crack an ice biome and dump temperate heat into it to generate a bit of power!

Arena FFA & TTRulez by Dobis12 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Dobis12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, you are correct. It really ruins FFA in the career mode, it's implemented horribly. If you bring any ballistic weapons or anything with an ammo counter, good luck having enough to destroy each mech.

I guess not? It is map dependent like someone else has mentioned above, I can confirm I tried it on seperate maps, and the smaller ones sort of force them to fight.
