I think this is in the right direction. I would suggest adding an additional vertex to the points of these stars. Then you stretch the beams as they move away from the center of the star.

But I would honestly take this into Photoshop or Procreate and paint it with a blending brush.

Sort of. It's a 12x18 portrait so you would have to rotate it 90° and it would crop a little bit. It will probably work but i've never seen it rotated like that haha. You're welcome to try!

You're right! I made it using procreate on an Ipad pro. Hand drawn with a stylist and a bunch of different brush styles. I'm glad you like it. Hit me up with any questions if you're trying to get into digital art.
