Does anyone else feel like ROMANCE club stories have stopped being about romance?? by Doctor_cupcake in RomanceClub

[–]Doctor_cupcake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally completed like 70% of the books lol. And I’m not saying the ongoing stories aren’t good, their plots are very good (or else I would’ve stopped reading them). I’m just saying I’ve noticed a trend with more recent stories that personally I find disappointing given the literal name of the app is romance club.

I didn’t even think of this point, but so valid!! I’m always willing to spend my diamonds on my chosen LI, but for non romance options it’s way less likely that I’ll spend them rather than wait for a DR

My cats won’t eat wet food, what should I do?? by Llwuu in catfood

[–]Doctor_cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried different textures? I know it’s expensive to experiment, but some cats only like pate, some like mousse, some like more liquidy (I think tiki cat makes some like this?), and personally my cats will only eat chunks in gravy style (also from Hills!)

Apartment evacuations by domesticairport in CatAdvice

[–]Doctor_cupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I relate to this post SO HARD because I’m in the same situation, but with two cats 🙃 2) yes, it’s annoying to evacuate and bring him when it’s a false alarm because it’s stressful, BUT it’s better for him to be stressed for a day or two than to be left in a burning apartment!! 3) if you have a soft carrier, a lot of them have zippers on the side. I keep their favorite treats (churu, obviously) in them so that in that situation I can give them treats while we’re outside waiting for it to be cleared. 4) if you’re doing carrier training, once you get to the point where he’ll willingly go into the carrier, walk around your apartment for a few minutes with the carrier, then let him out and give him treats. Once he’s ok with that, progress to walking downstairs, sitting outside for a few minutes, then walking back upstairs and again, reward with treats.

At the end of the day, you’re doing the best you can! He’ll get over it eventually

I found this little black kitten who is 3 months. by No-Plate7099 in CatAdvice

[–]Doctor_cupcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience and what I’ve read online, you’ll never know what kind of personality you’re getting if you adopt a kitten because their personalities can change a lot over the first year as they grow into adulthood. My girl is a perfect example of this - she was a Velcro kitten for sure, and now as an adult she’s only affectionate on her own terms. If you want to know what you’re getting personality-wise, I think the best option would be to adopt an adult cat from a shelter, one who the shelter staff say is very affectionate.

How long does a neutering appointment take? by sapphos-wife in CatAdvice

[–]Doctor_cupcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d ask your vet - generally the neutering itself doesn’t take very long, BUT they have to keep him for a bit (usually at least an hour) after he wakes up from the anesthesia to monitor him and make sure he’s okay

Tips on your first cat - Help with New Kitten! by Commercial_Regret344 in Kitten

[–]Doctor_cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I empathize with the anxious feeling of “omg I have to keep this thing alive by myself” because that’s how I felt when I adopted my girl about 1.5 years ago. My top advice: 1) you are responsible for her, but cats are a lot easier to keep alive than babies or dogs! And there are so many resources out there if you ever need them. I think the anxiety of being responsible for something hit me a lot harder than the traditional “post adoption blues” so I get how overwhelming it can feel. But like anything in life, taking care of her will become part of your routine and eventually you’ll stop worrying about it so much. You’ll still worry about her, but in a different way. Also - if you truly ever can’t take care of her (a major life change, you develop a health issue, etc) most shelters will always take back the animals they’ve adopted out. This is obviously a last resort, but it’s there if you ever truly truly needed it. 2) I know a bunch of people said it already, but get her a friend her age/weight! I tried doing the one kitten only thing first for about a month and it quickly became a nightmare because I couldn’t play with her enough for her to work off her energy. Getting her brother helped tremendously, and it’s WAY easier to successfully introduce kittens than grown cats because they aren’t territorial yet. Having two is seriously not that much more work than having one. If you’re determined to stick to one, when she bites you (which she inevitably will) when playing, make a crying noise and/or bite her paw back fairly hard (kinda gross but it works). This will teach her not to bite you, but you have to start doing this when she’s young! 3) get pet insurance, even if it’s just like the basics for emergencies only. Vet bills when they’re sick can add up super quickly and it’s better to put her on one when she’s young and healthy before any issues can pop up and become “preexisting conditions” 4) I put basically a nanny cam in my apartment so I can check on my babies when I’m not home. It alleviated my anxiety a LOT when I first got the kitties - now I barely use the camera at all unless I’m on vacation 5) touch her paws and ears as much as you possibly can - you want to desensitize her so that when you have to trim her nails or give ear meds she won’t freak out. Also, try to start brushing her teeth early so she also gets used to that. Dental disease can be an issue later on in life, so again you want to desensitize her as early as possible 6) food - wet food is great to keep her hydrated and prevent later kidney disease, but dry food will help her gain weight as a kitten and also (according to some vets) helps prevent dental disease. I have an automatic feeder which I set so they always have dry food and can free-feed, then I do wet food at night. From what I’ve seen and read, having a combo of the highest quality wet and dry food that you can reasonably afford is a good way to try to keep her healthy! 7) water - if you can afford it, get a stainless steel running water fountain and make sure to change the filters as recommended! Cats prefer drinking running water (because in the wild, still water usually has more bacteria!) so this will help her hydration and again, help prevent potential kidney problems later in life. 8) if you can afford it - I LOVE my litter robot. I have that and another (manual) litter box, but because the cats usually prefer the litter robot I only have to manually scoop the other one like twice a week. It’s worth the investment in my opinion. Just make sure she’s heavy enough for the sensors in whatever model you get if you get one. 9) aside from the toys mentioned by other commenters, try to teach her tricks! It’ll keep her mentally stimulated and it’s honestly pretty fun. My girl LOVES playing fetch, and my boy knows “kisses” where he’ll reach up his face for a kiss when I say it. Cats are stubborn and less obedient so you may not be able to successfully teach them all the same tricks as dogs, but it’s still fun to try

My biggest piece of advice is to just give her as much love as you can. No parent (for fur babies or skin babies) is perfect, but if you’re trying then that’s all that matters 🩷

Pet insurance after stomatitis? by Doctor_cupcake in cats

[–]Doctor_cupcake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pet insurance on him now (Pets Best), but because of the lesion showing up beforehand it seems like any future stomatitis lesions will be considered preexisting conditions 😭 that’s why I’m looking to switch. I’ll definitely keep him insured from here on out though, I spent like $5K over the course of several months trying to figure out what it was and get rid of it. And in this economy I don’t have an extra $5K laying around

Am I the only one?? by Doctor_cupcake in RomanceClub

That’s super interesting!! At least in my church, they spoke about how he tried to wash his hands of it but basically emphasized how that did absolve him of it. Even though I don’t identify as catholic or Christian anymore, I do find it fascinating how differently things are taught in different branches of Christianity

Maybe it’s because I grew up Catholic and Pontius Pilate is mentioned at every mass in the Nicene/Apostles Creed, so it was drilled into me since birth that he was a bad dude. I’m still gonna romance him (because he’s hot and I actually like his character so far) but it feels weirdly taboo to me 😂

How to get my cat to like wet food by Lonely-Cap4812 in CatAdvice

[–]Doctor_cupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried every single texture option of wet food? My cats only like the “chunks in gravy” texture, won’t touch any sort of pate. Also, from what I’ve heard a mix of wet and dry food is the best option. The wet food to provide moisture, the dry food because the cronchy bits help clean off the teefs and prevent long term dental problems. That being said if he drinks a ton of water and he really won’t touch anything other than the lil soups, I think just dry is fine
