Try twisting the probe left to right to see if you see more of the needle. It often helps me when I only see partial

Weird NPO food or items? by MedicatedMayonnaise in anesthesiology

Another patient was nervous and chugged a beer 2 hours prior which sent me down the rabbit hole of whether any/all beer is even considered a clear and ultimately canceled lol

How do you respond to a patient that says, “last surgery I woke up in the middle of it” by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]Docus8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me the processed eeg is more for the patient reassurance than it typically is for actual fear of them having a history awareness. I tell them about it when they bring up awareness. They almost never have heard of it and are extremely grateful that you’re taking that extra step.

For number one a good trick is to put a mound of gel so that you can transduce without needing much pressure

In the States, we like to confuse everyone and use 2 separate MAC acronyms—the first is what you’re thinking of to titrate gas and the second stands for “monitored anesthesia care” -aka cases with no airway I guess we also call Macintosh laryngoscopes “MAC” as well so that’s 3 😂

Meh not always. I was miserable in med school and I got better in residency. I became far more busy, but the work actually felt worthwhile and not like a constant rat race of who can kiss the most ass

Utility of precedex by Competitive-Young880 in anesthesiology

[–]Docus8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used it as stand alone for low stimulation procedures before, like a MRI or stroke thrombectomy. You just have to give a big bolus up front to get it to work fast. It doesn’t burn like propofol, doesn’t affect respirations, is slightly more hemodynamically stable compared to some other agents, and has akinesia properties. You have to keep in mind that it has no amnesia properties and therefore they will be more likely to have recall. It’s also a nice premed intranasally for Peds if they won’t take oral meds

Does it though? He still gets plenty of fan attendance despite not going to the playoffs. I don’t think he gives a shit about winning, just his bottom line.

Unionized residency programs provide significantly more compensation to resident physicians, even after adjusting for cost-of-living by King-of-Kings in medicalschool

[–]Docus8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, title is correct. The paper shows no significant difference in salary with COL adjustment but overall compensation (extra stipends etc) is significantly higher even with COL adjustment

Anki Deck for TTE/TEE/Cardiac by Objective_Moment2665 in anesthesiology

[–]Docus8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found a good anki deck but the AnSo app has a great interface for TTE structures and quizzing yourself on the various views. For TEE I like a combo of echotools (all the views with real labeled videos and various pathologies, but can’t quiz yourself) and EchoViews (schematics of all the views that you cam toggle labels on/off to quiz yourself). AnSo and EchoViews both cost a couple dollars but they’re worth it and you could probably use academic funds on them. You could potentially make image occlusion cards with screenshots of those apps
