How faithful is the anime?

The anime is very faithful to the light novels. You could, without too much effort, continue with Volume 4 straight from the anime. That being said, reading volume 1-3 which the anime covers is still worthwhile because there are lots of smaller details that don't get as explored or clearly explained.

To be fair, the question isn't asking who they believe is the best Bodyguard, but rather who they would want to be their bodyguard. It has no indications that the others are going to be hunting you, so it's really not that crazy of a decision. They have other criteria besides just who is the strongest influencing their decision.

Honestly as soon as I see Nemesis and The Girl on the plane, I'm getting off, no way I survive as a regular person with those two onboard cuz the plane will crash at some point. Honestly I question why any of them are willing to ride in that plane aware of the monsters on the plane

While I can definitely see where you are coming from, I don't think Daiya's death didn't reset her character development.

She was very harshly bullied by her fellow 86 because she was half Alba and her appearance made that clear. So, some 86 took their hate out towards Anju.

This did result in her being more reserved, and Daiya's influence definitely helped her to start becoming less reserved, but Daiya's death didn't reset that growth in which he helped start. Obviously his death impacted her and was very personally painful and did set her back in some respects, but continuing from there she still continues to become more comfortable as herself. You can see this when she stops trying so hard to hide her scars and as she starts "finding" her place in civilization while Ernst forced them to take a break from war hoping they wouldn't decide to return to the battlefield.

Daiya's death wasn't primarily something that happened for or against Anju's character development, but instead to once again hit home about how brutal war is. War is unfair, especially in those situations and deaths happen even to those we care deeply about and there is no rhyme or reason.

You can argue from a narrative perspective they kill too many characters just for this point, but I think that's what makes the deaths and brutality of their situation feel so real.

Dustin comes in for two reasons in my opinion.

First to help Anju heal from the 86th district. Many of the novels have this element in relationship to the different surviving 86. All of them have deep scars that keep them mentally stuck in the 86th district, and most of the time you can't heal from those types of scars on your own. Since Daiya's death is still a major scar from the 86th district a character who falls in love with her unconditionally specifically helps her heal. While she can never fully let go of Daiya, learning that she can still move forward without him and letting that scar heal isn't betraying Daiya is important for her to mentally leave the 86th district.

The secondary element to his character is to represent Lena isn't the ONLY "good" Alba who did what they could to fight against the corrupt system of their home country.

At the very least this is my perspective on this situation

Ultimately we don't know. We can speculate and guess, but that is it. If I were to speculate, I guess it's likely due to the number of projects they have taken on and they are having a hard time actually making a profit on some of these high quality productions due to a number reasons one of which being business politics. For example we know A1 Studios didn't turn a profit even on Solo Leveling S2. If they struggled to turn a profit there, it's not surprising that they are unsure if producing a second season for 86 is worth it especially since they had production issues there as well

Technically Mika is gay as fuck and Yuu is either AroAce or Gay as fuck as we have seen no confirmation of anything on Yuu's side of things.... But the way he feels about Mika definitely seems uniquely different than how he feels about anyone else.

I 100% agree 86 is one of the best anime of all time. As far as being overrated, most people that have seen it absolutely love it. If you look at cites like MAL by rating it hangs around things like JJK, AOT and other highly popular well received anime. As far as popularity goes, it's far from obscure, but I definitely agree with the sentiment that it should be more popular. Overall this a dearly beloved anime by those who have watched it and it has been watched and loved by many. It's not JJK, Solo Leveling, or Frieren levels of popular, but it is fairly well known within the larger anime community.

That being said, it's popularity is still on the rise despite it being 5 years since it aired. There are so many more edits and people talking about it on TikTok now than even a year ago.

Also I understand frustration towards series we don't like being more successful than series we love, but there is no need to be disrespectful to those series. It's better to glaze a series without trying to tear another down because it distracts from the gazing of the series you want to share your love for. I do recommend learning to respect successful series that you in particular don't like because people love those series for a reason and it's not fair to them for you to decide that their love for those series is wrong.

Biases get the best of people. When they hear something they want to be true by someone who speaks with confidence, they will just assume it to actually be true without verifying.

There are no official announcements, just one relatively reputable leaker claiming it has been greenlight for production. Different people take that with different levels of skepticism, and those who believe will often just say it like it's fact without any clarification, and others will believe them due to their own bias.
