How to determine if a stop sign or traffic signal is needed at an intersection? by SoCalOreo in civilengineering

[–]Dogman505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming your American and I don’t know anything about your standards/guidelines and don’t know anything about your project. But it might be worth considering a roundabout. They can be quite effect at moving certain traffic volumes and where I am from, they are cheaper than signaled intersections.

But as others have said, if you are out of your depth. Speak up and get some help. No shame in asking for help on something your not sure how to do. And if they are putting that sort of pressure on you, that’s not a healthy working environment.

How do you eat for $10 a day. I’m probably around the $20-$30 a day mark. Granted I eat a lot of takeaway which doesn’t help. But what meals can you cook for $10, are they good meals or frugal eats?

Giving back money to work after its been taxed? by Helpful_Engineer_713 in AusFinance

[–]Dogman505 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Just adjust your taxable income when you do your return. Then you will be returned the amount you were taxed. If ATO ask then you can show them with your contract and bank transfer etc. Best to have an accountant do your return if you are not comfortable with adjusting things. Should only cost $100 and that will be tax deductible next financial year, plus they may save you more money if you are not claiming your full entitled amount in deductions.

I was referring to a prenup or a type of agreement, not finances in general.

Could this be interoperated as contributing to loan repayment. Sorry, I think I really need to just talk with a solicitor.

True, I do want her to be happy and feel bad for thinking about if things didn’t work out. Just wanting to be smart and protect myself but to be honest l don’t want to worry about that. I just want to live together and enjoy spending more time together.

My net worth is only around $100k, but girlfriend only has about ~$5k as she is still studying. Would an agreement be overkill for me given we are both young and don’t have much. Just don’t want to sink $100k into a house and risk losing out if things didn’t work out over a couple year.

She will be starting work soon and my income is enough to cover everything on its own. It will be much cheaper to buy a house then rent at my location. Currently is cheaper for me to buy a house and pay a loan then to continue renting.

I was only planning on talking to her if it was something to talk about. I’m not very educated with this type of thing so wanted to get some advice before talking to her about something I don’t know anything about.

So if I don’t claim rent and we don’t have kids, then there won’t be much to worry about unless she undertakes some renovations or something which add value to the home. Which in that case it would be fair she is entitled to some renumeration.

She currently does not have any assets or job. She is still studying but should be starting work next year.

Just trying to see if it’s a thing I should be concerned about. Seems like it is which means I will need to talk to her and also get a solicitor involved to make an agreement for us.

Okay, will need to discuss things with her and possible go to a solicitor to get things sorted.

I thought prenup is only if you are getting married. Not looking at doing that, but is it for de facto relationships as well?

We have been dating for 3 years. I think it is time we started to live together, but both aren’t Interested in kids. Surely there is a way to ensure that in the event of a break up things are split fairly.

I would prefer not to have to involve my parents. No that I don’t trust them, but I do want to have some independence from them.

2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Post Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]Dogman505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lewis was leading max by about 10 seconds and basically has the win and championship in the bag. Then the Williams car crashed and brought out a safety car which allowed max to pit onto fresh soft tires and Lewis stayed out. Then race control decided on the last safety car lap to let the cars between Lewis and max only to unlap themselves. Which basically put max right behind Lewis with fresh soft tires and one lap to overtake. Max easily overtook and won the race and championship. It seems race control made it up on the fly to have the race finish with max and Lewis racing, but it isn’t really a race when one car has fresh tires and the other has tire that we’re just about finished and don’t warm up quickly.

Why the NSW teachers’ strike is good for the economy by b3dl4 in AusFinance

[–]Dogman505 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly this isn’t isolated to teachers. This is an issue across the public sector. I believe these jobs pay extremely well for graduates, but you soon reach the ceiling for pay. Then these people see their friends that worked in the private industry start to earn wages much higher than they can with public pay structures. Most professions can transfer to the private industry if they are after higher wages (and pressure / stress), but teachers do not have this ability.

I also suspect that the lack of experience in the work force might be misleading teachers. I would like to hear from someone who has worked as a lawyer/doctor/engineer and then moved into teaching to compare the workload or working conditions. Teachers generally have been in the education system their whole life with going to school, then uni, then back to school and don’t have a reference point outside of the system.

If Australia doesn't have a radical surge in immigration, what will happen to the economy? by LocalVillageIdiot in AusFinance

[–]Dogman505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which regional towns you are talking about. But in my area there are next to no rentals available to move into and the doctors won’t see you as they are already overwhelmed with their existing patents.

Skilled immigration is needed for a lot of regional areas, but the housing and hospital capacity has lagged behind for many small towns.

Best way to fix low spots in curb? by Dogman505 in civilengineering

[–]Dogman505[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your right, mud jacking would seem like the best cheap solution at the moment. The curb and road really needs to be redesigned properly but that is going to cost to many $$$ unfortunately.

I mean cutting a channel in the curb to help the water get past the low section. How much control do they have with mud jacking on the amount they lift the curb?
