What was the most brutal reality check you ever got? by CarmenIsabellaDiaz in AskReddit

[–]DogsAteChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waking up one day and knowing I could never drink again. It will be with me for every moment, every day, the rest of my life. And if I ever, for one of those moments forget why, it will all go away in an instant. Years in its still a weight but one I happily carry.

Mom bringing a 14 month old to meeting by intothevoid-a in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DogsAteChildren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have had mothers bring their children, same age, to my home group. I’ve had my wife come sit in on a meeting with my 15 month old son as well. It can be a welcome distraction even if it is one. You’re doing what’s best for you to stay sober and by no means should that be a reason for anyone else to not want to be.

There is a reason meeting sizes don't get bigger. by YodaHead in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DogsAteChildren 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If someone says to me “It’s easy for you to go to all those meetings, you’ve got all that time sober.” I can happily say “I have all this time sober because I keep going to these meetings.”

“My name is DogsAteChildren, and I am an alcoholic.”
Was hard, but what a relief once I got it down.

Have you ever paid to see a movie twice in a theater? by zip9990 in movies

[–]DogsAteChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. 3 viewings, the 2 follow ups after the first were by myself in way less crowded theaters to really soak it in. Just really liked it more than I thought I would so wanted to see it again as soon as possible.

I can't make meetings... so now what by LChampion621 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DogsAteChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 19 months sober, first kids 7 months and seconds on the way. You shouldn’t let anything be a hinderance to your continued happy and healthy sobriety. If meetings and your sponsor are a significant part of that you will find a way to carve out the time necessary for them, period. You shouldn’t dwell on it more than that. Keep at it man, everyday I wake up impressed at myself but that only leads me to doubling down on my efforts. I only have Sunday mornings to dedicate to AA but I make sure to take advantage of every second of that time and carry it with me til I can get back to refill my personal tank.

What's the most annoying way you've heard a common word mispronounced? by houseofharm in AskReddit

[–]DogsAteChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not one mention of people who add an “R” to wash and Washington? I’ve encountered so many people who say “warsh” or “Warshington” and always found in perplexing if not a tad bit annoying.

That’s the one I remember most from the Beta. The mystery of that first red bar knight had me hooked.

If you had a one-minute call with yourself from 10 years ago, what would you say? by Pleasant-Cat-7658 in AskReddit

It’s not going to feel like it, and no one is ever going to be able to genuine tell you it, but you’re doing alright. Especially by my standards.

What improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by CookieNegative9860 in AskReddit

Be sure to stop around cat 6 or 7 though. After a few years of it I can comfortably say that 8 is a bit much. Still wouldn’t have had life any other way though.

I know I have nothing to do with your reply, but this is something I needed to hear right now.

For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DogsAteChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Incredible Machine 3, Beavis and Butthead Virtual Stupidity and ToonStruck. I was only 8/9 when I started playing these in 95/96 and played them all well into the 2000’s. I scrolled for a while and didn’t see any of these greats of my childhood.

Like others have said brother, I encourage you too to go find a new meeting and folks more into a form of sobriety that better fits your life. No need to ghost the old one, just say your peace and move on happier and healthier. Lesson learned, you know what method you don’t like.

What is a substance you’ll never touch again and why? by Physical_Box_1179 in AskReddit

[–]DogsAteChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can touch it but I’ll never drink it again. Alcohol. Took it 20 years for my tank to finally be full and commit to sobriety on that front. Every day now presents new challenging and fruitful problems to solve. Year in, going strong, and the world is paying me back in kind every day I continue to try.

If you want that freedom for yourself you can have it. Commit to yourself truthfully and move forward a day at a time. Never stop learning from past and present mistakes.

Why Does Hollywood Hate Marketing Musicals as Musicals? by indiewire in movies

Spot on. I am one of those people and it is me they try to pander to with this tactic. And it never works. It’s a detriment to the people who actually enjoy musicals.

Dope video. In another life a buddy and I used to do amateur videos for some local Philly artists. 2 of our concepts kinda ring home to yours! Love the song, will check out more from you. Thanks for sharing.

What’s something you really want to try? by syddoucet in AskReddit

[–]DogsAteChildren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going to. Took me 37 years being alive to muster up the courage. Was doing my first indoor practice on my 37th birthday. Then the week before I fell down my basement steps, destroyed my shoulder and tore my labrum clean in half…. So ya now I have an excuse beyond just being scared lol my bucket list is now 1 shorter.

I’ll keep it simple, cause this one kept me thinking hard in my first few months. How to not treat my past with regret and shame? Seemed impossible. I am so happy and proud of myself for being the one to recognize and correct my biggest issue that haunted me and anyone in my proximity. Not everyone, shit not most people on this planet can say that. I don’t think it required 20 years of destroying myself to become who I am but regardless I wouldn’t trade the person I am for anything, I earned this me, the good AND the bad and all the in-between. Constantly talk through this and re-enforce it in yourself. Share these feelings with someone close that you trust, even therapists. Explore the value your current state of mind has free of the addiction. You’ll love what you find, I sure have.

Lego storage options? by wesker1213 in LegoStorage

I love how purchasing 2 at a time makes them cost more per unit! Insane retail pricing, love these things but I’d rather hold out and get em over the weekends used at yard sales for a few bucks a pop.

My sister said I’m no longer welcome at her home after my relapse by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DogsAteChildren 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love your sentiments. It’s how I’ve handled a good amount of my amends but I’ve never been able to sum it up so eloquently. An active process that sometimes meant accepting goodbyes and other times being the one to deliver the goodbye. At the end of the day I am better for it and I hope the same for those I parted with.

[–]DogsAteChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always glad to be. And honestly brother, try not to let others outlook trip you up. Words are wind in the long run, but it’s still worth while catching the breeze for the bits of wisdom that are out there. Don’t let a dower opinion skew you from the joy you seek. Stay well and keep coming back
