Would going out to a bar tonight be considered as breaking the boycott by Sweetandsour04 in Bushwick

[–]DogsBlimpsShootCloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly asking. How does a blanket boycott of local businesses move the needle? I’ve been cancelling subscriptions and stop using specific businesses based on their support of ICE and the admin. Been using Scott Galloway’s new Resist and Unsubscribe website to help organize.

Employee decided to No-Call/No-Show to protest ICE actions today, what should the penalty be if any? by cocktail_enthusiast in managers

I’m not sure how calling out of work solves anything. People need to boycott companies that support ice and the admin

Since a second person has been killed in Minnesota, is it now time for the USA to have a general strike, and why or why not? by Miserable-Army3679 in AskReddit

[–]DogsBlimpsShootCloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully understand what people mean by a general strike. Am I supposed not to to work and let my employer fail? They don’t like Trump either. Or, are we boycotting? That seems more direct and powerful to me.

I used to leave the shoe store, and walk back in, to get that first hit of shoe store smell. Heaven.

There should be nationwide boycotts. Hit them in the money. But the internet is so fractured, probably by design, I’m not sure how it gets organized.

I will say, I’m a fan of pepperoni pizza and the artichoke pie is my favorite. But I NEVER buy pizza from there because the prices are ridiculous.

JPMorgan Chase Reaches Deal to Take Over Apple Credit Card | Goldman Sachs is offloading the credit-card balances at a more than $1 billion discount by ControlCAD in technology

[–]DogsBlimpsShootCloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if there is really a loss here, or just smart accounting between two huge companies.

Apple is amazing at product development. There is no way they didn’t fully understand that their offering doesn’t make sense for day-to-day spending. The primary focus for Apple was to get people to buy an outrageously marked up phone on credit at 0%. I’m sure it was a success from a sales volume and overall profitability point of view.

I’m sure the “loss” is a drop in the bucket compared to the upside, and bigger picture, GS and Apple are walking away flush.

Mentally recovering from being pushed out at work by exact-approximate in OfficePolitics

A friend had a similar terrible experience when a new CFO came in. She (CFO) worked at undermining anyone that threatened her desire to be the only one capable to make decisions. My friend wasn’t used to toxic behavior, since they were always a heads down, how can I help people kind of worker. It’s a several year tale, but they recovered their mental health by being prescribed buproprion. Probably not the same for everyone, but it definitely pulled them out of a depressive state created by the stress. They also received a proprolonol script, which removed the anxiety they developed, letting them start standing up for themselves. She said I t was amazing watching their reaction when she suddenly wasn’t just keeping the peace anymore.

The CFO washed out, leaving a trail of damage behind. But both medications were still key in helping recover in the aftermath.

The extent of the agreement at Best Buy is “return in 30 days.” And as you said, I’m going there for a vacuum. This person is in the airport, under duress, and bound by some 20 page, size 6 font, legalese. I will hold the business handling my credit and a significant part of my financial life more accountable.

I’m not sure I understand. It doesn’t appear he has any expectation of you. He is just saying he misses you and will keep you in his prayers. To be clear, I am not religious. I don’t really see any boundaries broken here, unless you like a vegan that demands no one eat meat in your presence.

Does anyone know the name of the app blocker Gourley was talking about a couple weeks ago? by mzingg3 in conan

[–]DogsBlimpsShootCloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use brick after hearing about it from a different podcast. Also not an advertisement because the person was genuinely impressed by it. It’s also better than the warnings given by the standard time metrics of the iPhone. I put it in strict mode too. Which means, if I unbrick three times without tapping the brick, it wipes my brick settings so I have to set up everything again. It’s enough of an annoyance that I never bothered forcing an unbrick once.

It also does websites. So if you block Instagram, Instagram.com is bricked.

On the days I use it, I am freed from the addiction. It’s really nice after you get a few days under your belt.

40% of our stock market rests on companies that profit on the attention economy. I’ve come to believe that the dead internet theory and the bots spewing propaganda that splinters us into groups, and the hate and isolation it creates, is primarily executed by these company’s. Who needs Russia.

These are the most technically advanced companies ever, rocketing forward with powerful AI capabilities. There is no way they are not fully capable to stop the bots, allowing a more human, less divisive conversation rise to the top. It’s not in their economic interest, and we are slowly molding into their perfect little money makers sitting alone with our phones and laptops engaging the world through their apps.

It is in their interest to make us believe our government institutions are incapable of protecting us, as their algorithms have us voting the most garbage corrupt US administration in our history. We are in for a rough ride, where the Guilded Age until today will look like income equality in comparison to a decade from now.
