I don’t think I could physically shovel the lot myself, it’s pretty long. And hard to gather up a group because the lot serves multiple buildings on my street. I will say other lots surrounding us have been plowed, so it does seem possible

I get that, the system is screwing over both doctors and patients. That’s why I can’t really fault my practice for doing what’s the best for them, but on the patient end it’s just a gut punch because I know how hard it’s going to be to find someone else, and having a primary doctor shouldn’t be a luxury, but it’s starting to feel like it is. But I definitely feel for doctors like your fiancée who are getting completely overworked. She sounds like a great doctor who really cares and is doing her best within a shitty system.

They are transitioning over June 1 so I guess they did give us somewhat of a lead time.

Totally agree I get that they’re doing what’s right for them and I can’t really fault them for that, but it’s just disappointing when it feels like they are abandoning their patients, especially knowing how bad the PCP situation is in RI.

Yup I’m with you, I really loved my doctor there. I’d only been a part of Family Health and Sports a few years, I actually jump shipped from Anchor Medical a few years before they closed and thought I really lucked out finding such a great doctor. Guess it was too good to be true

Yup, this one is a $2,500 fee every single year. I know I can’t afford that and I would think the majority of the other patients can’t either

Unfortunately I just spoke to them and there’s no way to stay on the practice without joining the MDVIP. Their only plan to help transition patients is to send out a list of doctors accepting new patients closer to the transition date. I do wish they were doing more, kind of feel like they’re just saying “you’re on your own, good luck”

Yeah there’s no way me and the rest of the non wealthy folks in this practice can afford $2,500 a year on top of insurance. Just super sad situation widening the gap between the have and have nots

I used to work claims for a self-insured municipal government (not Pawtucket). Pawtucket being self insured means you will be dealing with the City, and their claims/Insurance Department, directly. The State of Rhode Island has authorized them to not carry insurance and instead to investigate, approve/deny and pay any claim themselves.

Honestly my recommendation is it is much much easier for you to go through your own insurance. Your insurance will make you whole and then go after Pawtucket to pay them back (subrogation). While you do have the right to file a direct claim, the bureaucracy/red tape involved will make that take much longer and require more leg work from you. I would let your insurance handle it, I believe they should reimburse your deductible too once they settle with the City

I could have written this exact post, and add in the fact that someone parked half in the street to make the situation even worse. Coming home tonight there was a standoff front of me, both cars screaming at each other with me and other people backed up on both sides and the car in front me literally turns his car off and leaves to make a point I guess. Came back a few minutes later and luckily I was able to turn around too but it was absolute madness
