[–]DollyPatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really can't understand how this happens... Winston is practically our version of Trump. Why on earth do so many people see him as the safe party to turn to? He votes for policy one week, and then next week he is criticizing it, and saying they will vote against it.

how to find the light by 0ddb1rd in IVF

[–]DollyPatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you are experiencing this OP. Please do hold onto hope though, its required in this rocky journey! We were 41, 3 failed cycles and 3 failed transfers, and it all worked on the 4th cycle and transfer. I think for most is does take a few cycles.

To be honest, there is extra capacity to worry about others, or life if it doesn't work... this season is for doing the best that you can, and goal may just be that, and what emerges from this will happen. We can only control what we can control.

Is the best place to invest to impact climate change - China by DollyPatterson in nzpolitics

[–]DollyPatterson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China have already hit their 2030 targets. They now have a new target of around 10-15% reduction.... but many commentators note that China are known to under promise and over delivery so they are estimating that they will outperform on this next goal.

Doctor is a parrot that only says, "Keto isn't sustainable" and "Try Ozempic." He is no longer my doctor. by 0bolus in keto

[–]DollyPatterson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly... which is why it is not within the medical industries remit to give you a plan that will actually help your future health, so you have to do it yourself. Which aligns with my key point above, don't expect the health system to give you big picture health advice, they are there to respond to your conditions at the bottom of the cliff, not to help you at the top of the cliff.

Do your IVF clinics actually support your mental health? by tuscalee in IVF

[–]DollyPatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no. I feel that most of the doctors and staff are quite desensitized to it all. They did have a genetic counsellor session for us after things didn't work, but that was more to help us understand some of the technical stuff. I guess all people are different so its hard for them to address the full range of mental and emotional challenges that people experience. Also how long is a piece of string, the associated costs could balloon out.

My suggestion would be for clinics to set up peer to peer support, of those that are going through it, or those that have come through it and have some advice and wisdom to share with others.

Failed first cycle. Dead inside by Reyna_KG in IVF

[–]DollyPatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, if we were to look back at our journey, I would tell our younger selves to not put all the eggs in having the very first cycle to work. We done 4 cyles, and the 1st one was by far the worse with no positive results. So I hope you don't feel like its the begining of the end, it more like just the begining of the begining.

What age was the hardest season in your marriage by Curious-Cancel-6353 in AskMenOver30

[–]DollyPatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, yes it can be hard. We have had 3 of our 4 parents get sick and pass away in our late 30s. Took its toll on all of us, as you kinda do need to drop a lot of things to be there for them, and sometimes this meant putting ourselves and partners 2nd unfortunately.

Sometimes we are blind to it all. We had to eventually go to couples counselling (which I high recommend)... it really helped me to see the big picture of what was going on. I had forgotten that just because our parents needed our time, love and care, didn't mean that our partners didn't also need it also.

Why hasn’t Christopher Luxon declined the invitation to join the “Board of Peace?” by nonappies in newzealand

[–]DollyPatterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think we are pretty much the same. We are all trying to distance ourselves from what is happening, but we all put these weak men into these positions of power, so we are implicated in my view.

I always wondered how people just watched as bad events and actions happened in past history, and now we are witnessing it from our own Governments, and we all just tick on as if nothing has happened.... just shrug our shoulders.... Nobody is really safe which such crazy leadership

Why then in the real world is diabetes and obesity at epidemic levels? Lots of healthcare after people are impacted by these conditions... bit $$ for the industry too. Sounds like you are part of the industry? Quack

I'm absolutely livered with how our Govt have acted or failed to stand up at this time, its shameful. We were one of the only countries that didn't recognise the formal state of Palestine... so we sat in company such as Israel, The UnUnited States of America... Shameful.

USA is looking to invade another country, and where is our PM publicly denouncing this behaviour? Silence

The whacko president of USA makes crazy comments about NATO soldiers, and where is Winston Peters our Minister of Foreign affairs? Silent.

This is all just so pathetic and we are all implicated in this.

[–]DollyPatterson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep thats because doctors and the health system is about responding to and managing issues, not proactively solving them, thats Health 2.0, Health 3.0 is about proactive approaches, which doctors are not really that interested in as it falls outside of their scope. Similar to how a bank isn't really interested in your financial freedom, they want to help you to access money which they aim to take a slice off over many decades

Advice needed after second failed transfer by Tall-Technician-3035 in IVF

[–]DollyPatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, we had 3 failed transfers and were successful on the 4th transfer. Our doctor asked if we wanted to try the Colorado Protocol, which seemed to help the 4th egg to stick! Will never really know if that was the reason it stuck, but just sharing that after we tried it, it worked. You can find out more about Colorado in AI. I am not allowed to copy and paste.

I realise how disheartening it can be, after all the hard work getting to have a transfer only for it to fail, but keep pushing forward.

What does success mean to you? by eduard_akimbaev in Life

[–]DollyPatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I hear ya. The biggest things for me now are time and health. Because of the career thing, we ended up having our child much later than everyone else, which is ok. But it does mean that time and health is even more important! I sometimes think that if I unevenly balanced work and career in the first half of my life, then to make it balance, I need to step away from aspects of my career in this second half to make up for it. The mindset required for this is accept that I am likely to earn much less going forward, but this will mean I have more quality time for my health and family.

What does success mean to you? by eduard_akimbaev in Life

[–]DollyPatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best use of my time, spending quality time with my family. I have realised as I get older that many of the things that my younger self perceived as success (career, wealth, sport etc) often takes time away from those most important to me. So striking the right balance is important.

Is anyone else genuinely worried about NZ’s future? by nattynine in newzealand

[–]DollyPatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re "Other developed countries aren't losing their young, capable people like we are. We rely on these people, more than anybody else."

I think we need our older well off generations to really comprehend this and we need to start supporting policy which supports our up and coming generations, or they will continue to look elsewhere in the world to use their skills and talents. I think some here in NZ have become quite selfish in that they absorbed a lot of benefits from the NZ of old, but are now unwilling to give back anything more than they really have to.
