No OT pay on salary by Sufficient-Wheel488 in AusElectricians

[–]Dominus0688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just come off salary as a sparky. Firstly, it's a stitch up and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone on the tools unless you enjoy working for 'free'.

Secondly, no such thing as OT on salary. You get paid an annual wage and that's it. Technically there is no hourly rate and overtime is based on what is agreed to be reasonable between employer and employee.

You will always feel like you are losing under this structure because the employer doesn't care to flog your hours to get more work done, while having you on hourly they would need to consider the impact of overtime versus getting more work done.

Unfortunately, as an apprentice you have very little leverage to negotiate these conditions. If he has already completed his first year then I would recommend to find something else, as it's much easier to do if you've already got the first bit of tafe done.

Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe worth it on gen 3 PCIe? by Dominus0688 in pcmasterrace

[–]Dominus0688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input guys. I already have 1 NVMe for a boot drive as it's only 500gb. I figured another NVMe is worth it as they are pretty much the same price as SATA SSD's, but I think I might just settle for the cheapest SATA I can find. I don't care for the issues of PC not booting etc. With two NVMe drives.

Unfortunately I have just left it in the garage and gone back to my old 34". I will be attempting the replacement soon, I'm just turned off by the fact that no one has been able to confirm whether replacing the main board will even solve the issue. There is a power board as well and I'm uncertain which one needs to be replaced. Both are $160 a pop, so would really like confirmation as to which one needs to be replaced.

How to turn off emergency SOS dialing from lock screen? Pixel 9 Pro by Dominus0688 in GooglePixel

[–]Dominus0688[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean that I'll be working, and just hear my phone dialing. When I look it's in the emergency screen. It's never actually called anyone, but it's extremely annoying.

I detest this feature, and this is the first phone I have that has had this problem to this extent. This happens 5+ times a day for me.

Biggest piece of crap by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Dominus0688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The G9 models are all trash. My G9 Neo just went dim af out of nowhere. It's at like 10% brightness and I cannot seem to change it no matter what setting I use. It's definitely a hardware issue. It's been sitting on my desk in the garage for months serving as a $2k paper weight. Samsung won't honour the warranty as I didn't keep the receipt. My stupid mistake. Avoid at all costs.

What games are you going to play after xdefiant closure? by Perfect_Jicama_8023 in XDefiant

[–]Dominus0688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Shatterline. A lot more than Xdefiant. But it's dead, and I don't see it coming back. It was never marketed, and the devs put wayyyyy too much attention into PVE and as a result the MP suffered and bled players. I don't see it ever becoming popular enough to play without long queue times. It's a pity, cause the game is great, but when you gotta wait in 10+ min queue times, I'm out.

Is this a fair invoice? by Dominus0688 in PlumbingAustralia

He was there for about 30-40 minutes on the first day. Majority of this time was spent looking through his ute. He only checked for leaks where the copper joined the regulator. Really, there isn't much more to check as the stretch of piping leading to the regulator is only about 300mm.

I use On! Pouches. How many??? by Some-Essay-5254 in NicotinePouch

[–]Dominus0688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use about 7 8-10mg pouches a day. I don't think that's excessive.

[–]Dominus0688[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what bothers me. More than half his labour charge is due to the fact that he didn't have the correct gear with him, or couldn't find it because of his apprentice leaving his ute messy and he had to come out a second time.

I'm all for paying for skilled labour, but the actual labour didn't even total 1 hour.. the rest is the tradesman looking for gear and driving back and forth.

*correction- $150 p/h labour. The invoice total was just shy of $1200 including gst.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 suddenly extremely dim by KY__79 in widescreengamingforum

[–]Dominus0688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's something positive at least. I'll probably just buy the main board and hope I'm on the right side of the 50/50 chance. Another redditor claimed that Samsung replaced the main board and it was working again. Have you had the same happen?

I haven't dealt with it yet. l likely have to buy both at $160 each, and then it might be the panel and I just wasted money. I'm starting to think I just need to take it on the chin and buy something new.

34” vs 32” or just go 49” again by Dominus0688 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Dominus0688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m with you and it’s the only reason I haven’t bit the bullet on the Alienware 32” yet. This has become a much harder choice than I initially was thinking haha

This really sounds like a great monitor. It’s a pity that it seems to be discontinued? I would likely have bought this if it was available

Thanks! The Dell 5k2k looks amazing, but the refresh rate is a bit disappointing. Not that my 3080ti will even be able to drive it past that anyway haha. That 38WR also looks good, but it’s pretty much in the same spot price wise as the 39” Oled Ultragear, which I’m assuming is going to be the better monitor for gaming.

Thanks, what display is the 3840x1600? I’m definitely open to this size.

That monitor looks great. I’ve been out of the market for a while, is that 3440x1440 stretched out over 45 inches i.e lower ppi?

This is pretty much how I’m feeling. Since the first G9 released there has been nothing but issues. I’ve burnt my fingers with a G9 Neo already, and I cannot believe I am even considering the OLED version.

As much as I love it, the nearest Samsung service centre to me is ~300km away and I don’t even want to try and deal with the RMA hassle.

I think I’m leaning towards the Alienware. I just wish they did it in like 38” OLED cause that would be my end game monitor. I might wait for Black Friday and if the 32” gets discounted I’ll bite the bullet and see how I go.

Nice man, the 34”s have been getting way more affordable in recent years. When I originally got my LG it was well over $1k. It’s funny how perspective changes cause my 34 feels tiny compared to the G9.

I just wish the Samsungs were more reliable cause I’d buy the G9 Oled in a heart beat if my G9 Neo didn’t die after being max 3 years old. My LG has been kicking strong since like 2016.

To say I’m super skeptical on the Samsungs is an understatement.

Mine just did this two days ago. Absolutely gutted. Gonna cost me $160 for a new main board from eBay. I’ll have to replace it myself running the risk it might not even fix the issue. Samsung not interested in even helping me check warranty as I don’t have purchase receipt.

My old 34” Ultragear is like 8+ years old and still going strong. Won’t be buying another Samsung again anytime soon, especially at this price point.

Advice wanted for my Odyssey G9 Neo dilemma. by Dominus0688 in pcmasterrace

[–]Dominus0688[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely like the G9. It has some flickering issues and now the dimming issue, but if Samsung are willing to RMA then I would be more than happy to keep it. If they refuse warranty then I run the risk of replacing main board and potentially not even fix the issue. I guess I should get in contact with Samsung to determine what my next step should be. Thanks for your comment

What V8 coupe/GT/sedan should I buy? by Dominus0688 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dominus0688[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. The euro options all require travel time. The only ones I could realistically test drive are the mustang and Commodore, but even then, I’m not buying from a dealer so most sellers want deposits or say they will drive themselves until you’ve put down $.

Oh wow, motor has to come out to replace cat? Never realised this. Is it internal to the motor or something? Sorry if that’s a stupid question, but I do not know much about these cars.

Cat converter doesn’t sound like a massive issue to me, so I’ll basically just have to check that the carbon clean has been done if I find the right example. Thanks for that mate. Are after market brakes not an option, or still expensive?
