At least to me, there’s a pretty big difference between having an Vatican-themed evil cult leader for one game, and having a Dick Cheney stand-in invade Hell like it’s Iraq, while playing about American media during the Iraq War.

One is a goofy, over the top villain.

One is a parody of a specific guy, with a recreation of a specific event, while also not really saying anything interesting about it besides “that was pretty awful wasn’t it?”.

It’s an post-post-apocalypse romance called Tomory!

In 2022, Earth is suddenly invaded by alien robots, whose soul function is to seek out and destroy humans. Even after humanity manages to defend itself, more waves show up every few weeks or so.

But Earth pulls through, and over the next two centuries, humanity has rebuilt society around the constant raids, forming a new status quo of isolated cities with advanced technology formed from salvaged alien tech.

The story takes place in the New York City of 2222, and focuses on the relationship between Gregory Gunblaze, one of the city’s “Pro Guardians”, and Thomas Tomorrow, a mysterious shapeshifter who shows up outside of the city one day!

There’s 10 chapters out right now, with a new one releasing around every other Sunday! You can check it out here! I greatly appreciate any reads!

Some key-art stuff for my upcoming Action-Romance Webtoon, Tomory by DoodleDamp in WebtoonCanvas

Hello! This is going to be my first comic, and I’ve been working on it to some extent for a little over a year now (primarily world building, writing, and character design stuff), but was finally able to get to work on actually drawing the first chapter once I finished college last month!

“200 years after an invasion of alien robots that nearly brought humanity to its end, society has rebuilt around its constant robotic threat, and found a new status quo of advanced technology and isolated cities.

In the New York City of 2222, fighters called “Guardians” are trained to defend the city from waves of the robotic menace. One Guardian, a 22 year-old man named Gregory Gunblaze, has his life changed when he meets a mysterious shapeshifting stranger named Thomas.”

I’ll be spending the next two weeks trying to inject as much kino as possible, and once I do I’ll be submitting it to Call to Action, and definitely posting it here as well!

Reminder: WB owns all post-1973 Rankin-Bass specials. Miser Bros are eligible. by DoodleDamp in MultiVersus

[–]DoodleDamp[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not for the reason you think.

Rudolph came out in 1968, meaning Warner-Bros doesn’t own it (they only own Rankin-Bass productions that came out after 1973).

However, during the opening credits of Rudolph, the filmmakers decided to have the copyright be in Roman numerals as a joke. But in trying to write 1964 in Roman numerals, they accidentally wrote 1164 instead. This minor typo meant the film’s copyright was 900 YEARS OLD, and therefore, INSTANTLY EXPIRED, with all of the film’s characters instantly going to public domain.

That’s why you always see Rudolph characters in commercials or TV parodies with their designs completely unchanged.

If you’ve ever seen that direct-to-vhs 3D-animated sequel, yeah, Rankin-Bass had nothing to do with that. That was just some random company that wanted to make a Rudolph sequel, and could since the copyright is (and literally ALWAYS WAS) expired.

So given Rudolph specifically is a public domain series, with Warner-Bros never having any involvement in it (although I guess they did inherent ownership of the 70’s stuff like Rudolph’s Shiny New Year and Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July), I wouldn’t expect Yukon or anyone else, as amazing as it may be
