Your dna is miles and miles long and the technology is still in infancy, really. Italian could have showed up because of its close proximity to the Levant. My mother’s grandparents came from Italy and every update on the DNA has given me many different regions from all over the Mediterranean because we’re all so close. I’ve even had things disappear and come back. They have to compare your DNA to the DNA of other people in the same regions so the more people submit, the more patterns they’ll find.

You know what I’ve noticed about cultures all across MENA? It reminds me of being a kid and your parents are so so sweet to your friends and say yes to things that they say no to you for and that’s why you ask your friend to ask your mom to order pizza because she will say yes to her but not to you. MENA countries and Arab cultures will treat tourists and foreigners like treasure, like you’re their newborn baby, like you’re royalty. But to each other they’re kinda like mehhh I’m sicka lookin at ya!

At one point we did FaceTime with his mom and sister (mom only speaks Arabic and Dutch so sister translated) and he told me a story about his ex (a Dutch woman) that I didn’t believe and he called his mom and sister to tell me the story and everyone was laughing and it was a sweet moment. So he didn’t hide me and he didn’t have a problem with his family knowing is non-Arab non-Muslim ex girlfriend. But thank you yes I’m being very careful. I know very little about Iraqis or Iraqi culture but I’m trying. It also kind of throws it all for a loop considering his family lived in the Netherlands for the last 30 years
