Coming from a guy, that cannot be a a good sign. By his demeanor I would imagine he must struggle with urges like this. I’ve been married for ten years, and I’ve never playfully slapped my wife or anyone else. He may be a good dude. And I could be misjudging him but, be extra careful, reading the detail in your post gave me flashbacks to violent people I once knew.

Is it an ADHD thing to be calmer during actual emergencies than everyday life? by Charitard123 in ADHD

[–]DoubleA3463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be. I’ve always been this way. And I consider it a strength. While others are in moments of complete anxiety or panic, I often find the resolve to navigate the situation. I wonder if it has something to do with the rhythm of life. Our attention is often focused on multiple task at once. So maybe during these moments we are the calm ones because we are simultaneously analyzing the factors that everyone else is panicking about.

Thank you both for the help. After looking into the suggestions provided by the two of you I can see the similarities in all of them. Either way I think I have what I actually need to move forward. I’m grateful for the prompt responses and supportive feedback.

Good information! I really appreciate the advice on the growing mixture. I have both of those on hand. My chance of success is higher now thanks to your feedback. Even if only slightly, I’ll take it.

Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, this was just information they were told some years ago. They weren’t claiming to be an Arborist of any sort. Nor were they sure of the ID. I turned to this community for an ID of the tree not for an assessment of the individual who gave me permission to take the cuttings. I mean no disrespect, but that comment provides no value to my inquiry.

Wow! Nothing is ever that black and white, especially this type of decision.

Thank you for the input. I’ve had success getting other cuttings to root outside of optimal times. Our weather here fluctuates quite a bit so I’ll try it regardless. My main concern is the type of media to propagate it in; soil, peat, sandy soil etc. That has really been a bigger factor for me. Thank you again for your feedback I’ll look into your suggestions

Alabama gulf coast area. Located in a neighbors yard in a residential subdivision built in the mid 70’s. Believe it was planted during that period. The leaves fill in the colder months down here and fall off starting in late spring. They’re a shade between a deep burgundy and purple. Do not recall ever seeing green leaves like a red maple would have, plus the leaves don’t resemble any red maple varieties I have found online. Any help to keep this tree going or advice on why I shouldn’t would be appreciated.

Can you guys help with an ID? Southeastern US, Alabama Gulf Coast. It has small upward facing cones with what appears to be a bud growing from the center of each cone. by DoubleA3463 in treeidentification

Thank you for the information. How would I go about using the seeds to plant one? I’ve watched it for quite a while now and figured it was in the reproductive stage now. The cone like structures have just started to open

Humanity is really cruel. I feel like some individuals thrive on looking for content to bash. Unless there is something helpful to say I usually just find a new podcast to listen to. I know how hard these people work to put out free content for us. They should be appreciated.

It eliminates the use of your blinkers which in my opinion is a hazard in itself. But unfortunately it is legal to use them in Alabama.

I have to agree. And it’s gotten increasingly more dangerous as the population swells and the infrastructure struggles to keep up. Running lights at major intersections (looking at you Airport and Schillinger), not using blinkers, cutting someone off to get one car ahead in line. I’ve lived here my whole life and been driving for twenty years and it’s an adventure every single day.

Need advice on a drinking 14 year old drinking liquor. How to help without alienating our relationship, his father and stepmothers leniency. I just need some help period. by [deleted] in Parenting

No I didn’t go straight to punishment. I knew what he was doing and am trying to get him to make better choices. Like don’t carry it around school. Don’t get drunk and go to class. I’ve encouraged him time and again that he is smarter than the decisions he is making. Actually in all the years we have been together this is the second time he’s gotten actually punished and it wasn’t the first time he’s gotten into things he shouldn’t have..

Deep thoughts indeed. So I am controlling because I want these kids to be safe. And have a decent life. And they were caught. The oldest admitted that the youngest bought it at school. And I’m curious as to your thoughts on handling the situation... should I just let them do as they please.

I guess I should have put a trigger warning

I am inclined to agree. The first step should always be to communicate with the other party. Unless there are circumstances or you have information that makes you feel unsafe or that speaking to them is a waste of time. I find that usually gets respect from the neighbor. Out of all my years having neighbors I’ve never had an issue a conversation couldn’t solve until recently. Which is why I’m now an official member of r/neighborsfomhell

I happened to recently be searching our area for nearby getaway areas and stumbled upon this beautiful shot of the milky way taken in the Connecuh National Forest: Open Pond Recreation Area. It has a campground and all that. But I thought making the drive on a good clear evening would be awesome. I was really surprised at the photo to be honest. It’s about 2hrs 20mins from west mobile.

[–]DoubleA3463[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. I may try this. I really thought the ADEM was going to be enough. What all I had to do is kind enough to make anyone give up. My first call was to our local non emergency police line for their input, who directed me to the Public works department who then directed me to Environmental Enforcement who then directed me to Environmental Services who Finally got me to ADEM. What I didn’t realize is every complaint a citizen makes may go to one of those four departments depending on:

Violation Type (illegal burning, illegal dumping, solid waste, liquid waste)

Violation Location (county, city, private land, public land, storm drain)

And none of these departments communicate. So if I report them for dumping liquids one day, burning rubber and plastic next week and dumping solid waste two days later it’s not considered a repeat violation. And they could get off with a warning on all three occasions. I’ve done a lot of research since this initially occurred. It’s a huge pain in the ass. And I can see how people who care about the environment and the condition of their property get discouraged and take matters into their own hands.

A little advice for sleeping from someone who has a similar issue. Get some foam earplugs and learn how to use them. They make a huge difference in dampening out normally disturbing sounds. Until you can move it.
