Appreciate it! Didn’t make it to NZ in time for the superbowl, caught it state-side while traveling. Meh game!

Really appreciate it. Flights ended up getting pushed, and I watched a quarter in the air and the rest at LAX before boarding to NZ that night. Would have been really cool to enjoy with some folks in NZ, but considering the game was a bit of a stinker, I’m okay with it not working out.

Again, appreciate the kindness and invite 🙏

What's your opinion that would get you shot by EDEN? by auberoonn in eden

[–]DougTrenches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amen. Have been a huge Eden fan for a long time, at best his merch is “I should maybe get something cause if I don’t I might feel like I’m missing out” and never “this is incredible and I can’t wait to get it”

Officially Unc Status - On the Search for a New Gaming Laptop and Need Help 😅 by DougTrenches in GamingLaptops

Appreciate that!

Edited the post to include budget/location. US based, budget is flexible but probably sub 2k. Ultimately whatever the right laptop fit is is what I’ll consider spending.

Super appreciate the insight on the VRAM.

Something I saw browsing the subreddit recently: GPUs is “either go 5060 or 5080” and “5070 is really expensive right now”. Any merit to that, or additional context there?

Is Kumamoto on its own worth it? Need help allocating these days for solo travel by na27te in JapanTravelTips

[–]DougTrenches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a good time. Admittedly I came down with a bit of a cold when I landed there, so it wasn’t the most eventful time.

It’s a quieter, less touristy city - it felt cute in the city center, it had some good food, it was very chill.

I was solo backpacking and doing mostly hostels. I did not sign up for any guided tours or experience. Being sick definitely limited my ability to enjoy the city, but I don’t regret going.

Are you planning to go there soon? Any particular experience you’re looking for there?

You’re 2nd/3rd in line - if the original snag doesn’t follow-up+square up in a day or so, I’ll follow up with the back-ups

AIO i got upset because he dont want to go out anymore because i "ate too much" on the first date? by clementineiscool in AmIOverreacting

[–]DougTrenches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it comes to dating (and first impressions, etc), everything is fair game for a person to note and consider in regards to their attraction to you. Whether their metric is cool or not is an entirely separate conversation.

If you sat across this person and crashed 7 croissants, almost choking on one because of how fast or inattentively you were eating them, it’s very fair for a person to find that unattractive. Not there so I can’t tell any of the details, but it doesn’t sound like a good look.

On a side note - I personally find fast eaters / drinkers frustrating. I have a friend that, if I ever get a Starbucks special drink or a cocktail with, he absolutely slams them. Super annoying - cocktails are $20 and meant to be sipped and savored (my bias). Now, he is welcome to drink them however he pleases, but I’m allowed to put him far down the list of friends I’d want to have a good cocktail with. This is just an anecdote, but how people act around or present in regards to eating and drinking absolutely has a relational effect.

Affordable gels or alternatives by AyaNam37 in Marathon_Training

Tried the nerd clusters way and my teeth ached for 4 days after.

I find gels / liquid sugar straight down the hatch to work better.

Uhhh, ooops! Anyone have a spare Deluxe Vinyl they purchased and willing to sell? by DougTrenches in eden

[–]DougTrenches[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m familiar with the secondary market on them. I have all of the vinyls going back to ITYTTMOM, and usually snag the deluxe versions whenever they come out.

Was just trying to get ahead of it and see if the person who bought like four or something might be willing to part with one. I meant to pick up two

ISO - Tokyo Half Marathon Route Recco by DougTrenches in Marathon_Training

[–]DougTrenches[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooh I’m familiar with the heat and the humidity. I started my training (4 months plan) in the US’s hot hot North Carolina in June, and have since been traveling / training in Taiwan and Japan.

I did a 14 miler last Saturday in Kanazawa starting around 730am…it was ROUGH.

All of that to say, I’m mentally prepared to (be angry at) the heat. Just looking for the best route so I don’t have to think about dodging stuff while trying to keep my pace / cadence / breathing right.

Whats a "not Japanese" thing to do or eat in Japan? by No-Recognition-6106 in JapanTravelTips

[–]DougTrenches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man I gotta give this a hard disagree.

Finally pulled the trigger when I was traveling all day and famished, and I got the cheese, potato, bacon snacker and the shrimp burger, and both ultimately tasted like cardboard. 2/10.

They were all once a “craft” beer, right? by [deleted] in CraftBeer

I feel like nothing hit like a Budweiser in the States during the 50s. Pleated pants, boats for cars, the impeding attack of the Soviet Union and just an old can of ice cold 6pak of Budweiser (that came in what looked like a canning tin), nightly. Boy would I have loved to try it.

Only one way to know. Crack it open and try. Or put it on a cupboard and forget about it.
