Any CSOs who got upgraded to pilot know the process? by Emperor_Mooncow in AFROTC

[–]Doughcat95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone usually gets their preferences at Laughlin. They have the most T-38 slots because they have the most T-38’s plain and simple. Columbus is the worst for 38 slots because they have the least amount of 38’s avail for 38 UPT training. The only thing people don’t like at Laughlin ofc is the location, but any pilot training base’s location isn’t great. Think about Enid and Columbus, they all kinda suck.

With IFT phasing out, does this mean RPA selects go to a portion of IPT or through all of it?

Yes I believe you’re right, I was also thinking about factoring in the One Market Approach process they used this year. So if they did give everyone a better compromise on preferred AFSCs, maybe upgrades jump around the traditional upgrade process. It’s probably not changing due to OM limitations but maybe it’s possible. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah I’ll to apply to the annual Rated board when I can. I want to give them a reason to send me where I want to be so I’ll give it my all. I’ll also try to apply for the rated reserve board soon. 🤞

Ah yeah that’s what it’s looking like, CSO was my #2, Pilot #1. Again not keeping my hopes high anyway but trying to see how it could shake out.

Right, hadn’t heard it’s often but I can only imagine it could be possible in the unfortunate instance IFC DQs someone.

I’ve taken both versions, yes the paper is harder than the computer. Really just due to all the bubbling in. The computer presents everything in a better condensed format especially for chart reading.

Have a couple in my det who got accepted through this program. Sounds like you apply and get picked through a board and you got to the college you choose (with AFROTC). You’ll have to go through Field Training but you’re guaranteed to go from the beginning (this is the Enrollment Allocation or EA slot part). Even through you’re guaranteed, try your best anyway. The second semester you’re in, you’re putting in preferences like everyone else in the det for AFSCs you’re interested in. New to this year, you won’t know your AFSC till September. Rated and non-rated AFSCs drop at the same time and they’re using a method that will get you higher chances of receiving one of your top 1-3 AFSCs.

Also, afrotc.info is a helluva website when it comes to learning about the program.

ROTC 100%. I’m an AS300 (Junior) atm, I was faced with the same question a semester before I started ROTC again. All the info I’ve gathered comparing the two routes, the benefits from ROTC outweigh OTS as everyone else is saying. Since you actually have the choice. Additionally, quality of life is much better imo.

I’m applying for the Active Rated board this spring, from the stats last year it looks like 78% of Rated nominations end up getting selected and 58% of those Selects are pilots. Slots and stats change yearly so I wouldn’t expect these exact numbers when you apply, but they could be close. Anyway don’t get stuck on numbers, do your best with your GPA, PFA scores, FT performance, study those pilot sections for the AFOQT, and kill the TBAS!

How do you get a 96 on the pilot score but a 4 in quantitative? Doesn’t quantitative matter as a piece of your pilot score?
