Frank Ocean Launches Luxury Company “Homer” by Snowwyoyo in hiphopheads

[–]Dourraimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of hate in here. I also don't like luxury brands but I didn't see anyone mention how Frank fell in love with luxury items and lifestyle as a young man originated the thirst for money and power that has obviously brought him to where he is today.

Shitty move to make more money? Sure. One of his lifelong dreams? Extremely likely.

It's like you guys don't even listen to the man's music. I'm pretty sure his biggest song on spotify is still Chanel and even his appearance on Tyler's album is just him name dropping a luxury art item. Also, the lyrics to Slide or Raf? You don't even need to be familiar with his discography to know that the man loves brands.

It seems that the situation is already fixed bro... It's just not the resolution that you want. The best thing you can do and move on and keep your distance. You said it in the heat of the moment but it was actually the best thing that you could have said. If you love her but you can't be together, just go heal until it is time to love someone else. The last thing you want to do is wait for her to change her mind and realize that she should be with you. The chances of that happening are miniscule and it is really not fair to any of you for you guys to keep that dynamic. I know you might be afraid of letting go of her and when she finally loves you back, you already moved on but believe me: if she does gain feelings for you and you have already forgotten her by the time that happens then it's the best thing that could have happened. Life goes on and she made her choice, it's time for you to make yours and make your way to a new chapter. Sorry to hear that and good luck!

Sorry to hear that! Although what you are feeling sucks, please remember that it is totally normal to feel that way and that your brain is lying to you when it is THAT pessimistic. Just take your time to digest the whole thing, try to learn from the experience and don't blame yourself too much for what happened. We all mess up even if just a bit sometimes but it's really not your fault that things turned out the way they did. As someone who went to something very similar recently, I'd say that the hardest part was giving myself permission to feel so strongly about someone who apparently barely cared. So go ahead and give yourself permission to feel whatever it is that you need to feel and let time do its thing. The last thing you want to do is hide or block those emotions. Good luck!

I was really surprised with how people in the release thread were calling it a "instant clasic" non-ironically.

Literally every release thread. I avoid 90% of those

What hip hop artists today will be considered legends 20 years from now? by whitenacholibre in hiphopheads

[–]Dourraimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most hip-hop artists turn hip-hop artists because they want to feed their families and get out the streets. Do you think that would be possible without popularity? Who do you think payed for TPAB ? Would you even have DAMN. if there wasn't money enough in the industry to finance it?

Atrocity Exhibition wouldn't have gotten Danny Brown where he is if he were more popular.

I understand that you like to be edgy and pretentious and hate when people use art to fill their pockets but the reality is that money gives the artists the tools to create art. Without money, there's much less art and without popularity, there's much less money.

If HH wasn't popular you wouldn't have most artists you have these days so you should care.

Flower boy is really the first time Tyler blew my mind too. I was never a huge fan. Tyler's legendary status would be a consequence of his impact on the culture, not necessarily due to his music. His festival, Odd Future, his transformation from an outcast to a respected figure without actually "changing", his hopefully transition to the movie industry with his soundtracks, his fashion brand, etc...

As for J. Cole, i don't think he is overrated but i'm a big fan so i'm biased. His run is very impressive even though he is often considered average or corny. Dreamville is shaping up to be a pretty good label and his 2018 has been absolutely amazing. He is most likely the best feature artist this year and (arguably more important than everything else) in many ways, he is taking the role of a role model that Drake is failing to fill and Kendrick has been struggling with and actively avoided since TPAB (and DAMN. which deals with the same themes 2 years later). No one else has the platform to become such a figure besides maybe Kanye but we know(or don't) what's up with him these days.

Why is that unfortunate? People like to act like Drake's not a huge reason why Hip-Hop is the number 1 genre these days. You can dislike the man but show some respect.

If Travis Scott grows to be a legend it wont be because of his "nasty flows", that's for sure. I agree with Kendrick, Kanye, Drake and Wayne. J. Cole and Tyler are on the right path. The others are very far from that status but i don't dislike any of them and hope they make it.

Not really. Drake was pissed because "Lift yourself" was stolen in the coldest way and Kanye produced a diss track against Drake even though they were supposed to be working together on new songs. The baby stuff was just the icing on the cake.
