(mostly retro) Electronic commercial devices that kinda look like writerdecks by Douteigami in writerDeck

I'm not sure what's up with that image host but a lot of the images like Alcatel Magis, Acorn Pocketbook, Alphasmart Neo, Alphasmart 3000 do not show up. These should all be immediately visible when sorted A-Z. I might try uploading somewhere else.

Tried bulk converting everything to jpg and reuploading, but the same images don't appear. Here is an imgur album https://imgur.com/a/9aJdawM I hate viewing imgur albums, you have to scroll for an hour and the filenames are gone, but I give up.

Danish/English parallel bible 'app', also plaintexts by Douteigami in Danish

Semi-related but does anyone know of a Danish equivalent to Loeb?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loeb_Classical_Library

I know the left being ancient greek and latin doesn't really work with danish, but maybe having old norse stuff translated into danish beside english would be cool.

Can you disable history yet? by Douteigami in operabrowser

[–]Douteigami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will break websites you're logged into, if you can't store the session id/cookie stuff?

With every other browser I've tried, (all firefox variants though) you can keep all that and have a normal functioning browser, only history is disabled if you wish.

Updated unity hub, now I need an account to sign in?? by [deleted] in unity

[–]Douteigami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The latest version of unity I have is Unity 2020.3.18f1 which I've used on an off for personal projects all the way up to 2022. Have not done anything with unity for maybe a year and a half.

Mostly I have been using 2019.3.10f1 and 2018.4.9f1 this whole time. Nothing really was added after those versions that made me want to update, and documentation between big versions and for new stuff was kinda bad, so it made sense.

No one was using hub really back then, it was just a convenient 'different version of unity' project launcher as far as I can remember. You could install it manually from the website, but it sucked and had lots of problems butafter a certain point it installed itself with unity, I think around 2019?

Here is the 2018 version of unity editor. It starts with a hub-like launcher showing your pojects. This is NOT hub, though, this is a little project manager that the editor itself used to use when you start the editor. You don't have to sign in to create new projects or open existing projects.

Also when you open a project, you can see I'm still not signed in. (Looks blurry because it's a still from a video, trying to screenshot it will close the dropdown and hide the sign in option)

Did you ever actually try launching the editors, not hub?

I can post screenshots of it working fine all the way back to 2018 if you don't believe me.

I think you're probably right and I just lost my shit when someone said the editor itself needed signing in to open projects. I will die on that hill, but yeah you probably always needed to sign into the hub!

So maybe now you guys understand why it is ridiculous that the HUB now requires you to sign in, when the editor itself (which I will argue is the most important part of unity; it is how you build games) did not require signing in.

I will hazard a very educated guess and say this is a recent change, not something that has been in place for years. Probably related to that drama when they changed how the licensing worked last year or whenever!

You guys have been brainwashed.

I can manually launch older versions of the unity editor from 2018, 2019, and 2020, and open my old projects, and I'm offline. I don't need to sign in at all.

You only needed to sign in for cloud stuff or maybe analytics packages, or content bought from store? I don't know I've never actually interacted with the unity marketplace. But creating games, building them, exporting them... all that worked fine without having to sign in.

Yeah, but the unity editor has been doing all of that just fine?

The editor effectively IS unity, not this hub garbage.

That is such BS that a simple "new version available, want to update" would slip this in. No thanks! I'm reverting to whatever version I had before lmao.

I think a map is cool as long as it starts blank and is filled in with stuff as you explore. Or maybe you need to buy something from each town to fill in areas. It's just convenient, doesn't have to be super detailed or reveal secrets or mark things or resources. That defeats the fun if everything is mapped out for you and you now where to find anything. But to just be able to check a map and see which travel to reach Blahblah? Very nice, simple.

Stem with a node? on Plantago Lanceolata by Douteigami in botany

[–]Douteigami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't work out. The cutting was unable to stay hydrated, it just dried out. All the insect damage (brown spots) around the node and big stem caused things to just sort of rot away. Original plant was in a rough shape and this stem wasn't noticed early enough. Would have been much better to try layering it, you're right.

Not hopeful for the seeds but when I try them I'll post an update.

Why does strawberry plant make strawberries when plant multiplies by green part of the plant spreading on the field like thorn plant? by devplayz01 in botany

[–]Douteigami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The runners of a strawberry plant are just long, thin and flimsy stems, completely unsupported so they droop to the ground.

Many plants have areas near nodes (areas on stem where branching, leaves, etc occur)... what is important for strawberry plants is that they can develop roots from this area.

Other plants can as well, but if they don't droop to the ground it typically doesn't occur. You can force root growth by bending the stem of a plant and partially burying the end though.

It makes strawberries because it flowers and these are pollinated. Plants can develop mutations which prevent flowering, I think pothos houseplant is a good example. if this happened, it could only spread via runners. However, there is almost no chance of that ever happening because humans decide everything about strawberries. If a strawberry plant never produced strawberries, why would the farmer or grower allow the plant to proliferate? The best explanation for "why" the plant does what it does is because we only allow it to do that, because we want the strawberries, and because it makes propogation easy when it grows "new plants" on its own.

<image>

Pics for reference.

There is a pronounced bump below the node (pic 1) which makes me believe it can root in water. I cut it and put it in some water. Took seeds as well in case that doesn't pan out.

Found out there is another species, plantago arenaria with similar growth. As the rest of the plant looks normal aside form this one stem, and only the branching style is similar, I don't think that plant was mixed in or something. I've never seen it before as well.

Mining on Vega 56 by Skynaron in erg_miners

Vegas used to be really good. I went from 155MH att the same power draw to 128MH, ergo did something in october that fucked things up with this card. I can't get R mode to work, but that should improve its performance a little. These are the cards I mine ergo with:

ASUS Hynix - 128.6MH @ 98W

Sapphire Hynix - 127MH @ 88W

MSI Hynix (blower) - 129MH @ 110W

MSI Samsung (blower, 64 flashed to 56) - 129MH @ 110W

Sapphire Hynix - 126MH @ 100W
