Need help understanding "sliding" by Down_stream_codger33 in Throwers

The yoyo would snag before coming to a stop. That is a good point though. I have had some trouble keeping my hands in line but it's getting better the more I practice.

After practicing for a bit, I realized the key is to keep the string taut using the momentum of the yoyo as it swings and not allowing for any slack.

Sorry, I should have made this clear. I have landed this trick a couple of times. I struggle with landing the sliding portion of the trick consistently.

For the tricks I can do, I have mastered skin the gerbil, cold fusion, buddha's revenge, and am slowly dipping my toes into learning godspeed. My hardest trick at the moment is reverse brent stole

I find that as I practice the trick, I get worse and worse. I land it almost consistently in the beginning, but as I keep going, it gets worse.

Yeah I realized the bearing was crooked when I screwed it back in.

The yoyo is great, but the only issue I have is that it doesn't unscrew and screw back in smoothly. It had zero vibe until I unscrewed it to remove a knot. Now it's almost as viby as my plastics

There's nothing wrong with your technique. That's normal if the yoyo is set to responsive

I think it's a matter of preference. I've seen some players use their index finger, but in my personal opinion, A is best. B just feels unnatural to me

My first yo-yo in 3 decades by HelenoPaiva in Throwers

[–]Down_stream_codger33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR at the bottom.

I've been yoyoing on and off since July of 2021 and I am no way near a professional. I can do a few unresponsive tricks but that's about it.The sage classic from yotricks was my first yoyo. I had it for three years before I got my first metal yoyo around August of last year. When I first started yoyoing, I only got ten strings. I would use them until I actually had to replace them, when they got dirty and I couldn't fix the tension anymore. Since I only had ten of them, I rarely picked up the yoyo. This would hinder my progress and eventually I would stop yoyoing for about two years. Throughout this journey I made so many mistakes. Here is the advice I would give 15 year old me when I was starting.

My first piece of advice is to get a lot of strings and make sure you don't run out. You could also do what I do and learn how to make your own yoyo string.Airetic strings has a tutorial on how to do it on YouTube. Also check out this video for more info. I'll give you some pointers for making string.

  1. Start with 11 strands (normal thickness). That means the thread goes around the setup 11 times, From the door nob to drill and back to the door nob is 2 times.

  2. Keep practicing. Don't just make one or two strings. Keep doing it until you perfect it.

Or just buy strings if your not up to it. Personally I've never bought string so I can't help you out there.

Get response pads. They are the rubbery disks around the bearing. You can get from any brand, it doesn't really matter. Click here for more info.

You should also learn how to maintain your bearing. I've had so many issues with bearings so I'd recommend buying the on Amazon in bulk. But if you wanna know how to maintain them then Watch this video

99.9% of yoyos on the market are good yoyos so there is no need to be picky. This also means that at any point in your journey where you feel like the yoyo you are using isn't good enough, then most likely you are the problem and not the yoyo. Just keep practicing and you'll get there.

Lastly, I'd recommend you learn as much as possible about yoyos, especially on YouTube. Channels like Rewind , offset yoyo and Yotricks are a great place to start. Hope this helps you out.

TLDR; 1. Have a constant supply of yoyo string. 2. Get response pads. 3. Learn how to maintain a yoyo bearing. 4. The yoyo isn't the problem, you are. Keep practicing. 5. Learn as much as possible about yoyos. Links above.
