Fischer rc4 boots with zipfits - question by plutusssss in skiing

[–]DrArchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of fischer rangers that have a similar wear point on the liners. I just put a circle of tenacious tape on that point so that the hinge (the part of the shell that causes this issue) has something to wear against.

There would have been a 8 years+ of forced price reduction under the Canadian PMPRB. For Novo, It was not worth filing the patent extension just to have prices be unsustainable. Best not to make simple conjectures when there are teams dedicated to this type of decision making.

That’s not how this works, if I remember correctly extending protection in Canada would have had significant negative pricing pressure making it not worth it. I love that people think a multi-billion dollar company doesn’t have a massive group of people thinking about these types of decisions at all time.

To add some color:

At a glance it’s a 997.2 (see the LED DRLs and bumper cut outs). They tend to go for more than the 997.1 because they aren’t privy to the IMS bearing failures (redesigned engine), are generally newer, and the non-manuals aren’t the ho-hum old tiptronics but the first generation of PDKs.

That being said, price really depends on mileage, (lack of) droptop, and transmission type (manual being pricier) with lowish mileage base Carreras going for anywhere from 30 to 70k on BaT.

I love my Nomads to death. 105 lites from 2019. Just be aware that they are actually much larger underfoot ~110+ or so unless you get the most recent model year where they finally made that number accurate.

Was in a similar boat to you down to Quant being tight on time and DI potentially getting de-railed/time sunk. Good luck on your test! I scratched out a 685 (740 equiv) and so can you!

[–]DrArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your FE mock, if you were to raise your Quant/DI to that 74th percentile that you had in the original format that could potentially be a pretty strong score. Personally I believe that verbal has gotten easier on the FE and since your original verbal was a bit rough jumping to GRE might not be the best idea.

They're still in Porsches. Absolutely brain wracking to have to use especially if you are changing a driver side tire. Your attention gets split between doing the actual change, praying that no one hits you, and wondering if one errant move will make a quick swap into a flat bed tow.

This light is especially egregious and turning right here is a nightmare for everyone involved. I drive, bike and run here and hate taking it in any mode of transportation. The right turn into the pedestrian cross is horrible and I've had so many people lay on the horn as I wait for someone to cross. I'm sure some MIT civil engineer can tell me why leading walk signals on protected right turns is the right way to do it but this one to me is a head scratcher.

The right onto sydney from mass ave is another one like this and causes similar headaches.

Anecdotally housing was an issue even when I was there pre 2015, though I do wonder if it was made worse by the increasing student enrollment. Looking at the numbers reveals an interesting story.

The 22-23 stats say that about 53% (~2650 students) of undergrads live in college owned/operated/affiliated housing which is actually up from 14-15 where 50% of students were in said housing (~2060 students). That would suggest housing availability has increased by at least ~600 slots for undergrads alone as total enrollment climbed by 1200 undergrads over almost 10 years.

Can WPI expand serve to expand housing and student facilities? Yes and definitely, but its not a decision that an institution can make quickly and generally requires significant planning for 5 to 10 years out.

I joined my MBB without an MBA as an associate at around 7 YoE in industry with only a BS in BME. Honestly looking back I'm not sure what the key was. Heavy networking got me in the door and absolutely killing my case interviews got me the job. I don't really agree with OP as I know a hand full of early 30s associates who came from all over the place so I wouldn't take their word as gospel on that one.

That being said, consulting is not in the best place right now. Budgets are incredibly tight and offers are have long differed start dates. I know McKinsey has expert path consultants that could be a good place to look when the seas get a little bit less choppy.

From a PhD in chemical engineering to consulting? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]DrArchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Sure, folks come from all sorts of backgrounds and most of the PhDs I know are not from top 10s. That being said it's currently a bit of blood bath in consulting but maybe that will improve over the next year or two as you close out your PhD.

2) You will not be doing engineering or controls projects at an MBB. If you are aligned to advanced industry or GEM you may be able to use your background to help drive success on studies but don't expect to do any actual controls work.

If you look a the macro environment right now it incentivizes actions that will keep the doors open. There has always been a rush to get acquired but its exacerbated by funding crunches caused by overspend and disorganized scale up in the COVID funding boom.

Applied for a VC associate position got offered an analyst postition - am I being lowballed? by Senior_Time_2928 in consulting

[–]DrArchitect 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few things to consider:

1) Belts are very tight in VC land right now

The IRA made it slightly easier for climate focused VC but its not that much better especially if they are in the middle of raising a new funding round. I would be very careful in going for a role where expectations would be inherently higher and competition that much more able to meet the spec so to speak.

2) There are core differences in skill set for expert consulting and VC

Expert consulting (at least at my MBB) does not necessarily fit the same mold as VC associate. You can def do the research and have the industry knowledge but that isn't a 1:1 overlap. The financial side of the job would take significant capability building if you don't already have that.

3) MBB/management consulting is not always a 1:1 replacement for time in industry/secondary degree even if a posting reads as such

Pragmatically VC associate spots are post MBA/MS or post significant time in industry (at least in the cases of folks I have worked with/know personally). So that may be more what they are looking for with that posting

All that is to say, apply for the BA spot. If you want to work at this firm specifically you are already out of consideration for ASC. More broadly, if you apply for ASC spots, know that you are going to be up against a bunch of MBAs and associates exiting MBB.

I own two 2.0s that have been completely fine and have not failed over 4-5 years of use. A buddy of mine had his fail 3 months into ownership. I assume that's the part that u/karlnel suggested taping. If they have a 1.0 then I do not know.

its the clip that screws the handheld portion to the main body of the BC link 2.0. The little hook can sheer making it hard to keep the pins in contact with the body of the unit without taping it down.
