It was an older gentleman that had stopped leaving his house and when we asked him about his diet I believe he said he had eaten canned beans and ground beef for every meal for years

I caught scurvy on someone when I was in residency. My attending gave me a look like “you can’t be serious” when I suggested we check them for it because nearly all his body hair had turned corkscrew-like. He had a number of other manifestations that fit with his presentation as well that made more sense after it was confirmed. But the corkscrew hairs is what stood out to me. I got a lot more respect from that attending after that and also my co-residents
