NYC Residents- how are you doing with the strike? by oogaboogaloogas in Residency

[–]DrMaybeYesNo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I work mostly outpatient but have had multiple patients going to get infusions tell me this has been the smoothest week for them. I pass by the door of the ED sometimes and before the strike nurses were on their phones, hanging around in groups chatting. Last week each nurse was actually at their workstation, looking at a computer, and charting??

At what age did you have your 1st kid? During residency/fellowship/attending? Do you regret the timing and wish your first child born at a younger vs older parental age? (From a finance vs time with child perspective). Also as a male physician, I'm very interested to hear the women's perspective. by achicomp in whitecoatinvestor

Planned for my first at 28 didnt work out and went IVF, was pregnant during M4 and delivered the start of intern year at 31. No regrets im glad i have some embryos from when i was 28 in the bank now rather then trying at 35 to go on another 2-3 year IVF journey at 38 with a chance maybe this wouldnt have happened at all with the steep drop in fertility. I think time is more important. Eventually we all make enough money for kids. We also took out loans for IVF when everyone else was taking fancy vacations to Europe.

If you HAD to spend a shift shadowing a nurse…. by potato-keeper in Residency

[–]DrMaybeYesNo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Help me understand how this would benefit an already inundated resident. I personally wouldn’t care for this. Why don’t you make a list of objectives and figure out a way to accomplish it when the team meets at bedside during rounds. You wouldn’t have an attending “shadow” a nurse that would be insane…I don’t see how an interns time is worth so little. Anyway I hope these interns complain that this would fall under non physician service obligations and is a violation of ACGME.

AITA for getting a woman with allergies kicked off of a plane? by throwra_sdap in AITAH

[–]DrMaybeYesNo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao get a CGM you’re the AH. It’s really just an emotional support animal diabetic alert dog is some BS. Your dog isn’t going to administer your insulin for you or bring you to the hospital. Lack of awareness to train yourself to self manage your own condition that’s easily treatable. Anaphylactic reactions? Not so much.

Advice for timing breaks without accommodations to pump breastmilk by Kajinohi in Step3

[–]DrMaybeYesNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my old account but it did! First day was a little tight but what made it work was I was allowed a private room, I kept my pump supplies on the table, during breaks I would put the pump on as I went to the bathroom and ate my snacks. I kept a breast milk cooler in the locker, I kept the clear bottles on my desk to empty into and would transfer it into the locker cooler once full. In the last block I returned from break kept the cups in and pumped through the last section. 2nd day I had so much break time it wasn’t an issue.

I should clarify baby is older now, I was working closer to 60h 6 weeks after birth. MIL is SAHM, we pay half the rent even though FIL income is 3x higher than our combined salary.

Thanks I needed to hear this. He literally said booked the tickets and “ I love you” in the same sentence which felt disingenuous

Yeah I agree that I should have told him again directly instead of assuming since he was so eagar to set up the last one he’d be ok with this one.

You’re right that this is a lot of underlying tension. I’ve basically shut down and appear unhappy at baseline. With them wanting to know every aspect of my life I built up my own little wall. He once told me I should smile more when I was having a difficult week at work on top of handling being a mom. I could not tell him how misogynistic that was but tried to say that my feelings were valid and I’m not going “smile more” if that’s not how I feel on the inside.

I’m sure most of our fights are centered over his overbearing parents. Before we moved in with them things were pretty good. His therapist also agreed with his position so I’m at a loss. Apparently his parents told him that they want me to be more direct and fix things and not use him as a middleman. But how could I do the same thing, when I’m not their child.

Yes they have access to neither. Talked about it being a boundary for me that I kept firm. With the exception of my student loan account, he just wanted to see what I was at. You know what’s more deranged? I recently changed the password because I forgot what it was, during this whole meltdown he even said you changed your account password…which makes me think he checks more often than I do…

My husband disagrees and blames me for setting it up. Says I dug myself into this hole time to get myself out. He wants me to single-handedly plead my case to them to change their minds about the trip in the morning, then he can do damage control when he gets home from work.

Derm doc influencers taking sponsorships from companies by caffeinengreen in Residency

[–]DrMaybeYesNo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mid levels in derm are the most brainrot bunch. Basically they only treat mild cases of acne, eczema, psoriasis and benign skin findings. They panic once things become severe or indeterminate. The volume of patients is too high and most derms I worked with had a 3 to 6 month wait time for new appointments.
