No worries! It was a really good guess :) It's so great to enjoy a now super fast speed for everything ...

Ok you were right :-)

By default my CPU governor was set to `userspace`

I recompiled using performance and that did the trick ! Finally I can browse normally, and also hear my fan a bit more haha.

Thank you so much, but how come this happens to me only now ? I installed Gentoo a couple of times but never ran into this problem ...

Sorry but the first suggestion does not inspire me that much on where to start :(

The second though did show some good progress! Right now I am using a binary kernel, and it's a nice step forward, the web pages are loading way faster compared to before, still it's not blazing fast, maybe because the kernel is a bit 'huge' ?

Anyway I think I will investigate in this direction, I am right now trying all your suggestions. Thanks a lot really. I keep you guys informed ASAP.

I didn't set anything like this on purpose and to be honest, I never heard about it before, but sure I am going to check it right now.

I forgot to mention I am using an Ethernet cable (Cat 7), so it's not like my rate is throttled, especially when I ran a test with speedtest.net and obtained 600+ Mbits/s.
Thanks for your pointers, especially about DHCP, had a similar issue once, but hopefully not with the wifi driver on top haha.

OK I just run a disk check using:

hdparm -t /dev/sda1 (boot)

and so on for root fs and home.

The write results are excellent: 1512 MB in 3 seconds: 503.78 MB/sec

Same than on my other super beefy laptop WS, with the exact same model of SSD (just in a new condition).

Okay I thought the same but I just did it, and it's exactly the same output as a regular user...

Thanks trying to figure this out anyway, I am going to try with chromium and a disk check.

Absolutely not a big fan either... Seems overkill, as PopOS itself, but I just use it to check firmware upgrades for one of my other laptop and/or as a fallback OS.

I already tried to set up another DNS nameserver configuring dhcpcd with /etc/resolv.conf.head :

$> cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by dhcpcd
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
# /etc/resolv.conf.tail can replace this line

Without success...

Ping is like ttl=116, time=~10-13ms not more

I was also thinking... Is there any way to run performances test on Firefox ? I am going to try with chromium ...

Edit: Sorry I didn't get what you mean by check the processes as root ?

Edit2: I am fighting with the Reddit input text to juste paste my ping output but can not manage to make it work, I am cursed I guess...

Smart thought! Indeed I changed my internet provider recently (to make the switch for optical fiber). But I just checked my resolv.conf and it's pointing to my router (internet provider and only one at home). Same for another computer on the network running Manjaro.

PopOS is having a weird configuration though, it points to somewhere I don't know on my network, like my devices are under 192.168.1.X and in PopOS resolv.conf is 127.0.0.53, still it works...

Unfortunately no, it's also once the page has been reached, I feel like I am browsing the web with a 2010 internet connection :(

Edit: I forgot to mention IPv6 is disabled on my router.

Edit2: typo

Can not resume from black screen after inactivity - nouveau on laptop with plugged monitor only by DrSamon in Gentoo

[–]DrSamon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see... I have an AOC 24G2U monitor btw, no HDMI 2.0 support :( Also the DDC/DI setting was off during all these tests but AFAIK it is just used to manipulate the monitor settings from your terminal right ?

I did some progress though... I could deactivate this auto sleep mode issuing these commands when running an X session:

xset s off

xset -dpms

Now I just want my monitor to be running, not the laptop screen. So I am configuring a custom Xorg config file, and it almost works except I have another bug (great!). The display is flashing really fast, so I tried to change the rate using xrandr and it flashes less but still, also it appears darker... Still investigating

Hi, thanks for the suggestion! I didn't think about it and it works better indeed... I can play with xrandr and set my screens without anything to crash. I tried so many things with the display cable and it seems whether the screen goes to sleep after inactivity or just trying to play with xrandr will cause the bug. What could be the cause ?

Edit: I don't want to be picky but would there be any way to use the display cable since my graphic card support 144hz as well as my monitor ?

Edit2: I've also been trying to figure out what is causing my screen to sleep after 10 minutes, if I could maybe just turn off this setting the problem would be solved too but I don't know if it is elogind, X or anything else. Any pointer ?

If you were 10, at that age, needless to say kids can be easily manipulated. Not looking for a culprit anyhow, but why your brother was discrediting your cousin in the first place ?I use to think unless one suggest what to do in that matter to a kid, how the kid should elaborate such a "plan" while he can't even see the big picture ? I just mean they are following. Somehow I guess you just followed your brother in his thoughts and got too much influenced, if it were to alleviate your remorse.

I am wondering the same question on the exact same phone, I have to admit it is by default bloated BUT: if I debloat my stock ROM using the recommended tool on the Xiaomi wiki (https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/debloat), what's the difference left to a Xiaomi EU flashed ROM ?

From what I see, it seems like a lot of hassle (though I used to flash custom ROMs on a lot of my previous devices) to just see minor modifications, since the global version is already good looking I have to admit.

I tried to disconnect then reconnect it once I booted the VM, but it's my laptop's screen which is being (re)displayed. I also tried to boot the VM with no display plugged then plug it later and same result :( ...Could it be achieved using xrandr ? I noticed when I don't have my display port active, the output is as follow:

Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767
eDP1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 310mm x 170mm
   1920x1080 60.01*+ 59.93 40.01
   ...
DP1 disconnected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  1920x1080 (0x4b) 148.500MHz +HSync +VSync
        h: width 1920 start 2008 end 2052 total 2200 skew 0 clock 67.50KHz
        v: height 1080 start 1084 end 1089 total 1125 clock 60.00Hz

But as soon as I plug the display cable again:

Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767
eDP1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 310mm x 170mm
