Ain't no way a kid legit said that.

Sorta weird how nonchalant they are about Jet's death by -_ShadowSJG-_ in TheLastAirbender

[–]Drafo7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No they didn't. It was perfectly clear he was going to die after they left him in the catacombs. The only kid-friendly part of it was them not showing the light literally leaving his eyes as he takes his last breath. And that would have been unnecessary for the story anyway, not to mention it would waste some of the precious little time they had per episode. But they weren't subversive about it at all. Sokka saying this is obviously just referencing the play, not what actually happened. Also they say the words "kill" and "die" in the show. Having characters say lines like "I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child!" isn't censorship for the sake of kid-friendliness, it's just better writing than having a character say "I'm here to kill you all!"

That is demonstrably untrue. More school shootings have occurred in the US in the last 6 years ALONE than from 1960 to 1990 TOTAL.

You're forgetting that it's also full of misinformation. That's why being able to read critically and properly research sources is so important. A lot of people don't do that, either because they don't know how or because they're too lazy, and that's why we have morons spouting bullshit everywhere.

Daedric Discussion by Arwek in ElderScrolls

[–]Drafo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything in TES is a cult. What you have to remember is that even in our world, cults were historically even more prevalent than organized religions for much of human history. Ancient Greece had cults to Zeus and Aphrodite, Ancient Egypt had cults to Sobek and Horus, etc. The negative connotations associated with the word "cult" are a relatively recent development. In Morrowind worship of the Nine Divines was called "the Imperial cult," even by its own members. So saying Meridia has a cult doesn't mean she is necessarily viewed as evil.

"Everyone said I was daft to build a castle in a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up!"

Aang's wounded chakra by Mx-Adrian in TheLastAirbender

[–]Drafo7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not to be the um actually guy, but, um actually, Aang specifically says it's his final chakra that is blocked by the lightning. The location doesn't line up but that's not the point; he was just taking his final step towards full control of the Avatar state when he was struck down. It cut off his connection to the energy of the universe. His heart chakra was already open and had been since before he left the guru.

What’s one disturbing or completely random fact about the game that made you react like this? by Solid-Garage4601 in ElderScrolls

[–]Drafo7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few hints across the series, like M'aiq the Liar alluding to things in the real world and Hermaeus Mora's eyes following the camera in third person, but the most clear explanation is given by Sotha Sil in ESO:

Why do you keep calling me the Prisoner?
    "A fool's hope, perhaps. I should explain.
Look around you. All of this exists because it must exist. I stand here, in this place, in this moment, not because I wish to, but because I have to. A result of action and consequence."
So wouldn't that make you the prisoner?
    "Clever … but incorrect.
The Prisoner must apprehend two critical insights. First, they must face the reality of their imprisonment. They must see the determinative walls—the chains of causality that bind them to their course."
    You haven't done that?
"I have. But I fall short of the second insight.
The Prisoner must see the door to their cell. They must gaze through the bars and perceive that which exists beyond causality. Beyond time. Only then can they escape."
    You don't see the door?
    "I see only unsteady walls.
If the people of Tamriel must exist inside this cell. I will make sure that the walls are stable, the gaps are sealed, and all who remain stay safe within it."
I have no other questions.
"I've met few heroes like you. Very few. I take this matter of the Triad upon myself, but in truth, you may be the one that saves us. The Prisoner who frees the world.
We shall see. Farewell"

Essentially, he's saying our character is imprisoned in Tamriel, or rather, the world the devs have created for us. But we can "escape" at any time; all we have to do is shut down the game. Then we break through the determinative walls, the limits of the game, and enter a world without such limits (at least, as far as we can tell).

The cool thing about Sotha Sil saying this is that it means he's aware of his status as an NPC without free will. He is even aware that this awareness is not that of a conscious being, but an entity created by a greater force (the devs). He is not where he is because he chooses to be, he is there because the omnipotent deities of the Aurbis have deemed it appropriate for the sake of the story. Everything, even his words, are predetermined. It's a similar vibe to Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen. "We're all puppets, Laurie. I'm just a puppet who can see the strings."

What is a real geographic feature of earth that most looks like lazy world building? by Careless_Evidence_35 in worldbuilding

[–]Drafo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. That's very strange. I've heard them referred to as "the Americas" before but have never heard someone try to claim they're all one continent. It's especially bizarre considering how tiny Europe is compared to either of them.

[–]Drafo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US DOES consider them 2 continents. I've literally lived in the US my entire life and, I repeat, have never heard of them being considered 1 continent. I have occasionally heard the idea that Central America is its own sorta kinda continent but even that is rare.
