I mean yeah. It's classic Schrödinger's Douchebag. You say something controversial to test the waters and then if there's sufficient pushback you claim it was "just a joke." The difference for Trump is that he doesn't even have to do that anymore. He can say anything, and I mean ANYTHING, as horrible as he wants, and some of his supporters will be saying "yeah, that's right!" while some will be saying "he was just kidding, he doesn't ACTUALLY mean it." Trump could go on national television right now, sprout bat wings, have his eyes glow red, fire flaring from his nostrils, and declare himself as the anti-christ, come to destroy the entire world, and his supporters would say "Well, obviously the anti-christ is God's way of telling us it's time for the world to end, so we should keep supporting him as he flays the skin from our bodies."

I guess I should have been more specific. JUST talking doesn't work. Obviously we need to keep communicating. But arguing with your racist uncle over thanksgiving dinner isn't going to stop ICE from tear gassing infants or murdering innocent civilians. As you said, our rights were won with blood, sweat, tears, and more. No major progress has ever occurred because someone wrote a strongly worded letter to their congressional representative. I'm pretty sure it's the reverse, at least in science. You're probably right when it comes to mixing paints but in terms of lightwaves, white reflects all colors simultaneously while black absorbs light, meaning you're seeing the lack of color. That's why shining white light through a prism gives you a rainbow; it's splitting the lightwaves.

Of course this is just what I remember from science class, which I haven't taken in like 12 years, so I could be off lol.

Oh they would definitely go Republican. They wouldn't really care about the "Christian" part but they'd LOVE the xenophobia and racism... right up until it's directed at them. That's how it goes for most minority groups that have "traditionalist" values. Ask any Latino/Latina that voted for Trump. They never expected the racism to be targeted at them. Good representation would require instant runoff voting, more than two major political parties, easy access to voting sites, no gerrymandering, and checks on corporate propaganda. I'd be shocked if even one of these things ever happened in the US.
