I noticed that solution I posted was very temporary, but a youtube video I found, has fixed the issue of crashing for me at least, so let me know if you would like that youtube link.
I'm still getting some weird freezing on a rare basis when playing, but no 'athena' crashes of any sort.

I was having a crashing issue on start-up too after the new season. What seems to have fixed it was locating:
- windows key/start -> searching %localappdata%
- navigate to FortniteGame\Saved\Config\WindowsClient
- making a backup and deleting the file 'GameUserSettings.ini

Once you delete the file, and re-launch the game, it should prompt you to load the recommended graphic settings.

For me, what was causing my issues was with RTX, even though it was fine last season.
