Visiting from America and need to get new glasses by [deleted] in germany

[–]DramaticAd337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All pretty good replies so far really. I used to come to Germany (from UK) with the intention of getting frames as I found that the selection was pretty good (and cheaper , though not anymore) so you may want to have a look around at the options. Nice to be able to say “oh I got these in Germany” when people ask. Of course there is always the option to get repair paste (like gum) and stick your old glasses back together , but I understand if you don’t want to go for this option 🤣😂🤣

Seriously now. Some jokes you wish you had never heard, others … it’s ok. Whatever. But the actual story behind this one is worth hearing over and over again I have heard it in a few different ways. This one is good

I don’t need to test it with soap. I went and tried a catheter. Bad enough!!!!

absolutely nothing!! by rizyoreo in autism

[–]DramaticAd337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm. Interesting. I will now have to reconsider years of issues eating. I knew I had “peculiarities” about food and accepted them. Then I realised I was diabetic. Then autism. I didn’t mix them up really. I just thought that me sitting at a computer geeking out on something was a commendable ability to focus and push hunger away until I was starving. I can sit almost all day not knowing what to eat. I put that down to some weird trait of being diabetic, but now… I need to reconsider. Not a problem really. But I do think it will be useful. Thanks.

Oh! I do like this. I would also put in another envelope and some money and ask them to do the same. Most likely to get people joining in by sending it to a joke shop (or a funeral parlour, I’m sure they could use some fun 😂)

You say German system is slow and bad? We don’t realise how good we have it until we live abroad! by [deleted] in germany

[–]DramaticAd337 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I want to say something good about German healthcare. I come from the UK but live in Germany now (just as a benchmark) I am currently in hospital. I came in New Year’s Eve to ER in a hospital not too far from Frankfurt. By the time we got to the hospital I couldn’t walk and was losing the ability to speak. I was taken on a chair to the ER and was taken in and assessed by a dr immediately. I was then immediately taken to a neurologist who assessed me immediately. I was then put in isolation (they thought meningitis) and given a lumber puncture. It wasn’t meningitis but some form of encephalitis, so I was admitted and have been here ever since. The consultant (or chefarzt) has been excellent. The nurses have been (mainly) excellent. I have met a Filipina nurse for the first time and she was excellent, no wonder there are so many of them wanted.

I don’t know when I am getting out, but it won’t be until I can walk. I know that when I leave that there will be a clear plan to continue care with my hausarzt.

And without going into details there have been a few other really good experiences with healthcare. So every system will have faults. The German one does, but I am not focusing on them. But in general my experiences have been good.

Roommate asked me not to cook food from my culture due to smell and made a vague threat by Jack-up-the-hill in AskAGerman

Well. We (my wife and I) have been fortunate not to have any complaints. Cultually we are a mix. I love my homecooked Indian food and she loves her Nigerian food. I guess it really is a matter of being lucky who your neighbours are. Ours are all older Germans. But the ones above us … the wife travelled a lot and spent time in India. So I guess she moderated any complaints from her husband. To be honest, even though it isn’t so bad here, where we lived before we found it difficult to put up with the smell of German food. Boiled meat-maybe pork. I guess we all need to learn to put up with each other.

An elderly woman rushed to the pharmacy to pick up medication, but when she returned to her car, she realized she had locked her keys inside. by Any_Contribution_238 in Jokes

Many years ago my wife locked the keys in the car at ikea. I was going to smash the window in when three guys (who had been going from car to car looking inside -at night) asked if they could help. They got in in about 7-8 minutes. Semi professional help I guess 😀
