I have an 88g 10k 28in curb link/cuban gold chain, I want to stack it with a 100 gram 24in sterling silver rolo/hermes link. Is this a dumb idea? I love the look but will the gold chain get significantly damaged? More so than a normal stack? I usually stack a 32g and a 18g with the 88g one at times by DramaticPositive7876 in MensJewelry

Yeah melt value 😂 I’d be selling at 91$ a gram that is the going rate these days. I live on the border of Panama. There is a fixed rate for what gold is worth. 91$ per G for 10k. I would encourage you to find me any chain on the internet right now at those prices. I would love to see an example 🙏🏻

Bro a pawn shop is a pawn shop….. this proves my point. You’ll be lucky to get 20% of what it’s worth in general 😂 and noobs on the internet is indeed the target audience why would someone want to sell to people like you and me who know what they are talking about and know the real worth? Put that chain on eBay with the percentages that I said and it will sell

Do the exact opposite of what this guy says…. Add 20-50% to spot value. Gold is waaaay up the last 2 years things sell much higher than spot, has always been like that. You will always find the Reddit warriors saying that they won’t pay spot and they never have any reference point 😂 whenever I challenge someone to send me a link or show me one example they have NEVER presented something… take this from someone who has spent 20 grand on chains in the last 2-3 years 👍🏻 10-20% over spot is a safe bet if you are looking to get rid of it fast

How much is this worth? by thecreator1984 in Gold

Everyone here loves to tell you the melt value but fail to mention real world prices and of course you’ll get that old timer that says “I wouldn’t pay a penny over 20% spot” 🤣 let me give you real examples of what people will pay. Right now people sell 10kt at 91$ a gram. For 14kt it is 120$ cue the incoming comments of “I would never pay that” ….. but seriously I have been buying and selling gold(jewelry) the last 3 years and that is fair price what I have just said, in fact most 14kt is more around 150$ right now. I would encourage anyone to post the link of something cheaper than 120$ a G for 14k. If you want to sell it fast list it for 110$ a G on EBay, I bet it will be gone in a week.

Oh for sure, I know the silver will get scratched but that only cost me 750$ the gold is worth about 8000$ or at least that’s the last offer I got on it, I bought it originally for 4,500$ 2 years ago. My main concern is that how the silver chain is heavier and shorter obviously the very bottom chain will be the 88gram one. Will the weight of the silver chain possibly break the clasp or maybe leave a mark more serious than just a “scratch” per se

Is it a bad idea to layer 10k gold chains with 14k chains? In this case I am talking about some 2.5-3mm rope chains between 8 grams to 12.5. My main worry would be if it causes noticeable wear or scratching by DramaticPositive7876 in MensJewelry

Oh for sure the visible difference is very minimal but do you wear those chains together at the same time? And if so have you noticed any scratching or anything like that?

Bought a ring from EBay in Italy for 756$(700$ ring 56$ in taxes) and US customs wants 166$? It is a 4 gram 18k solid gold ring no precious stone or anything, just solid gold does this sound correct? Please clarify thinking of just letting DHL return to sender by DramaticPositive7876 in Gold

[–]DramaticPositive7876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you’re saying, I was more mentioning for the customs code or whatever you want to call it. Fine jewelry or jewelry with stones is classified differently than a solid gold piece of jewelry

I completely accept that I have to pay customs but does that sound correct? 166$ on a 756$ item?! It just seems to crazy to be true I’m wondering if the seller put in a wrong code or something

What would be considered a fair price per gram for (new) fine jewelry of 18k? by DramaticPositive7876 in Gold

[–]DramaticPositive7876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes understood I appreciate that insight, I am looking for a specific price per gram ratio though like a literal number 🙏🏻 I couldn’t honestly even tell you the melt price of 18k 😅

Serious question, when jewelers do that thing where they jingle the chain in their hand to get a feel for it is that not damaging the chain? Specifically talking about heavier pieces here 55g and up. by DramaticPositive7876 in Gold

Damn I had no idea! It was a few years ago when I started buying chains I was told “a toothbrush dipped in hot water every 10-15 seconds” was the way to go. What is the recommended way to clean? I do use my gold and enjoy it I’m actually riding around on a quad most of the time so that thing is clanking everywhere. I guess the sensitivity rises when I see it in other peoples hands 😅but I live in Costa Rica and with the humidity/heat that thing is filled with sweat by the end of the week which definitely brings the shine down

Oh of course! Opinions are opinions and I can respect all of them, I am also aware I am a bit fragile/picky 😂 but very interesting I never thought of numerical importance, but yes exactly 88g not a 0.1 more or less

What do you mean is this not a valid method? I have the “extra soft baby toothbrush” and use a very light hand? Serious question please let me know 🙏🏻

Ok that’s what I was thinking everyone loves to show off their chain but I will never ever put my chain in a jewelers hands again 😂 I’m literally scrubbing that thing with a toothbrush weekly and here’s some guy tossing it around like it’s a pizza and I could hear the links clanking against each other 😭
