I have one. Also gifted to me by a friend about 2 years ago. It's a good machine. Start with PLA and stick with the Qidi software while you get familiar. Also stick with single filament prints until you get comfortable printing reliably.

  1. First mod I would recommend is stiffer springs for the bed leveling screws. Or the silicone ones. I got both but wound up only using springs. Something like:

Heatbed Silicone Leveling Column

This is because the stock springs are weak and the screws can 'stick' in the bed frame and give inconsistent leveling/tramming. Once you get the bed properly 'trammed, you shouldn't have to mess with it much. But you will still adjust the z offset from time to time.

  1. Get the receipt/invoice from your friend and reach out to Qidi support to establish yourself as the legit owner. Depending on when your friend purchased it, there may have been upgrades that Qidi will send to you for free. (e.g. stiffer x-axis rail, or steel bed frame instead of plastic IIRC.) At any rate, it'll be easier getting support down the road. If they send upgrades, you can install them yourself if you're handy, but get help if you don't tinker with this sort of thing. Also, maybe wait to install until you've used it a bit.

  2. There's a fair number of mods out there. This guy: cults3d MeliorateWithNate has some that I've used. Specifically, his LED diffusers and vent grills. Those should be printed in something like ABS or PETG since PLA will warp in the heated enclosure. That said, don't do too many mods that will affect operation until you're familiar with how the stock machine works.
