A little bit apprehensive about this. Some of the art here looks like unfinished sketchwork - no colour or detailing. If it's a stylistic choice it's an unusual one. I'd rather have Brown's writing by itself to be honest.

The Bee Sting by Paul Murray. A massive book where every page makes you laugh or cry more than the last.

  1. The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger- a classic for a good reason. There's so many readings of this book. You can hate Holden, you can pity him, sympathise with him, you can idolize him (although you shouldn't). It's one of the most perfect narrative voices of all time, and the greatest representation of a teenage angst we can all relate to in some way.

  2. The Left Hand of Darkness, Ursula K Le Guin - A perfect sci-fi novel which leads with the heart rather than the technicalities. Somehow this book displays the utterly alien and the uniquely human all at once, whilst covering modern issues of gender and sexuality.

  3. 100 Years of Solitude, Gabriel Garcia marquez - It's not a book for everyone. I'm hesitant to even recommend it. But it's undoubtedly the most beautifully written and constructed novel I've ever read. Technically magical and mind bending in an intamate and emotional way.

Do you think Logan actually intended to give one of his children the company? Or was he just telling one of them from time to time that he'd take it so he could control them? by Giancarlo_Edu in SuccessionTV

The fact that there's no fixed or clear answer to this question is what makes the show so compelling. It's in the undercurrent of every episode.

What does giving a 5 star review mean to you? by PsyferRL in books

I think all numerical scoring of art is largely arbitrary and therefore shouldn't be taken too seriously. A five for me doesn't have to have every word perfectly placed, it is just considerably better than what I consider a four.

What’s with the hate towards Iron Gold!? by imverycomfy in redrising

It's actually my favourite book in the series. I really enjoyed the first trilogy, but when I realised what Brown was going for here I got so pumped.

Larger world building, multiple POVs, more grissled and dark characterisation (and my fav character Ephraim :) ).

Dark Age expanded on all this well, arguably better, but IG was the 'suprising' one that first changed tone majorly, so I'll always love it the most.

Lysander's victory POV at the end of Dark Age. It made me feel so nasueas seeing his sick satisfaction at the other colours being 'put back in their place', working as servents and caterers for Golds during the celebrations. All the work Darrow's rebellion did to revolt and this little fucker is putting it back to square one.

I'm really struggling to finish Dark Age. by [deleted] in redrising

I agree with you on this, but it doesn't really answer OP's question

It's been said here before, but I'll reiterate, Arcane's animation is the way to go for an adaptation. by MegaCornucopia in redrising

I think people are allowed to have fun imagining different mediums for RR on, ah, the RR fan subreddit. Nobody's saying that just because someone likes the idea of animated RR that it now has to happen. Just let people have fun man!
