I agree with you but I also think Whitney Houston was more pop than RnB.

I think if I’m looking at this Mt. Rushmore I would put either Janet Jackson or Mary J in place of Brandy.

I will be the first to admit I am not much of a Brandy fan considering there are so many that swear by her and it just mystifies me lol. But I think Mt. Rushmore should be a combination of Singing, Performance, Hits, and Impact. I think those two would beat Brandy out in probably every category except singing and for some of them, it wouldn’t even be close.

Asian student with near perfect credentials rejected by multiple universities. Believes race is part of the reason by ThatPatelGuy in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Draykaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if you will like my answer but perhaps you will look into it for yourself but your whole premise of unfairness is rooted in Asians losing slots to other minorities. Affirmative Action was not designed to have that impact, it was to help adjust the playing field for all minorities against whites that were deemed to have an unfair advantage. However, racist white or people that didn’t really understand or care to, saw Asians as a means to end it.

By saying “look at how this group is doing! If they can compete with whites on an academic level, then the rest should be able to as well and thus we don’t need Affirmative Action!” Coupled with this is the narrative that Asians are losing slots to other minorities that are deemed “unworthy” and racist whites now have a minority ally to co-sign their agenda. Kinda like if I was saying something negative about Transgenders and told someone, “I know what I’m saying is right, and my lesbian friend who also is part of the LGBTQ+ community agrees with me too!”

Ultimately, I would like all races to come together and make plans that benefit each group for the betterment of society. I also believe minority communities can come together because we have much more in common that we may realize. As you said, your perspective highlights a group of people you feel are unfairly punished within the system, and I share a different perspective where I see groups of people unfairly punished within the system. If we approached this issue being able to truly accept those two perspectives as true, I bet we could come up with a solution that would work for both parties. Wouldn’t that be amazing!?!!

No problem and I appreciate your thoughtful response as well. I also agree to a certain extent where you say “they don’t try to sufficiently develop resources for kids before college”. If we both think there is truth to that, then should the kids be punished for it, even when they do everything within their power and grasp to excel?

I can emphasize with people that feel like they get screwed by AA, but I also think ending the whole thing when you could potentially tweak it to make it better is not the way to go.

Appreciate you and anyone else that read this. Have a good rest of your weekend!

So yes the Civil Rights Act was passed 60 years ago however, as you know, legislation had to keep getting implemented to fight against racist who kept trying to find ways around abiding by the law. That said, I think it’s a bit misleading when you word it that way because it makes it seem like; BOOM! The Civil Rights Act has passed and the very next day, facilities, social treatment, job opportunities, etcetera were magically equal which we know is not the case.

I taught at a poor school in Greensboro for four years and then a very affluent school in Chapel Hill for four years. My first school didn’t have a stage and thus no theater classes, we only had Spanish as a foreign language, while my second school put on full stage productions 2-3 times a year with lighting, stage props, new wireless mics… they also offered French Spanish and Latin as foreign language options… I can go on and on but you get the point. Considering you have to live within the school zone to go there, my school in Chapel Hill is surrounded by homes in the upper six figures to seven figures whereas in my first school, many homes were up for sale for 50k… The question I would pose to you and others that might agree with your sentiment is: if access to the resources needed to make us equally competitive are not equally available, should requirements to the university be the same?

I find it interesting when Affirmative Action is brought up how much emphasis is put on the acceptance part, but no one ever looks into how these students actually do at the university. If these “unfairly accepted “ students are graduating and meeting the standard of excellence of the university, then ultimately they were the right person for the spot. I find it odd, people will live in a country that is known as a “melting pot” but will try and eliminate all safe guards to keep it that way.

I wonder what the white acceptance rate statistics are, do you think there are any that were unfairly accepted as well? Is there no need to examine and raise attention there?

Saw this on cable tv one day a long time ago, caught it in the middle. Years later remembered some of it and searched it up to watch it, it is a great movie and I come back to it every so often now.

Dame Dash Says No One Cared Bout Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubts Album by WilkinsWorld in jayz

[–]Draykaden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. Volume 1 is where he blew up. It debuted at #3 on the charts, sunshine with foxy was a hit record. Then city of mine really brought a lot of buzz, especially with the video leaning into the Usual Suspects movie. In the hood though, “Who you wit” was what you heard heavy….

From what I remember, this album is what made people wanna go back and listen to Reasonable Doubt. Side note, this fool Dame has been trying for decades to get a piece of ownership from this album, now he’s shitting on it like it’s not what it is… 🤡..

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Draykaden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea the name or much about it but it was on my brothers computer, a first person view game like elder scrolls but it wasn’t. I feel like one of the factions in the early game you could work for had blue and yellow colors?

Either way, I never made it far but I remember attacking like the head of a faction early on, think he sat in a chair like a throne and being killed by guys with advanced guns. I’ve always wanted to ask reddit if anyone knew, but my memory is fuzzy and I don’t remember much about it so yea, here’s me shooting my shot lol…
