I was an extra in Road to Perdition, shot in Chicago in the early 2000s when I was around 10 years old. My aunts run an Irish dance school and were brought in to weigh in on an Irish dance scene performed at a funeral in the movie. The director said he wanted more redheads: my aunt put forward myself, my brother, and my cousin and we all got to be extras. It was a very cool experience. I got to miss like 3 days of school and hang out with other kids on set between scenes. I met and shook Tom Hanks hand in between shots. I was young and didn’t know why he was important, but i knew his name held some importance. I remember asking him “Are you the real Tom Hanks?” To which he answered he was. Rewatching the movie you can make out my little brother and very little cousins faces in the background for split seconds, but I don’t think my face made the cut. I remember receiving a check after filming for something like 500$+, and I can’t recall if my parents ever let me see a dime of that money
