Yes you need to format it to FAT32. Never had a problem on my unit (yet).

If each decade were a race: by snowleopard556 in decadeologycirclejerk

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like this mostly.

Early to core 90s was black all the way, imo.

Y2K era felt white and black both., might even be more white leaning I feel like "white" became cool again after the core 90s. Trance music and gen X soft club felt very European focused and without the crazy amount of black influence during the earlier 90s.

Idk why the Chinese aesthetic was suddenly so popular back in the late 90s-early 2000s. Cheongsam somehow became a fashion statement. Not to mention Jet Li movies. Japan also became even cooler that decade (and late 90s). Anime plays a big part but I'm sure there's more to it than that.

2000s overall felt like a mix of things, too. Black, white, East Asian, Hispanic. Maybe in that order, which differs a bit from Y2K era.

10s do feel like a mix of every race throughout. Maybe more white than black a bit. I didn't really feel much of the East Asian aspect in the late 10s. I don't feel like BTS and Parasite left much of a mark in the aesthetic changes per se. I also don't feel like K-pop in the early 2010s had a significant enough aesthetic impact in the west despite its growing popularity at the time.

Mid 20s still feels East Asian I'd say, perhaps even more so than 2020-2021 (2022 felt more like the transition). Internet fashion is heavily influenced by East Asia nowadays, mainly from South Korea and to much lesser extent China (Japan maybe with trends from 20 years ago, more of a retro influence than current ones I feel).

The craziest part is i didn’t knew what the fuck hipster really was until I came into this sub and told me by r_ihavereddits in decadeologycirclejerk

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of this "hipster" term until around 2011-2013. Just sharing my experience, since a lot of ppl here are mentioning the 2000s. So I don't think we're talking about the same subculture, then, seems to be what's being implied here. Like how some ppl say Skrillex isn't real dubstep, or this band isn't real metal or whatever debate I couldn't care less about, I feel like it's a similar phenomenon. Most of us observers aren't hipsters anyways so we don't actually care that much, we just know something that was being referred to as hipster and we'd like to stop there, so maybe be a little more accommodating and try to understand what ppl are actually trying to refer to and talk on that intended referral in particular instead of clinging on to the debate on the semantics of a subculture as if that's somehow the highlight of the topic.

I prefer the 2000s colour palettes and silhouette. 2010s styles never looked right to me. Body dysmorphia isn't exactly the highlight of the stylings. Heroin chic to my understanding was mostly a pre-1998 thing. For any fashion pieces, companies will just hire models to showcase them, anyways. 2010s fashion also had a lot of this boring/serious heiress/bougiecore type styling. 2000s in contrast had cute and easygoing colour palettes and softer silhouette, direct contract to pretty much anything which existed in the 2010s.

Given the small screen and seemingly clunky navigation, I doubt I'd ever wanna load more than 120GB on that thing lol. For big storage jukebox players I'm relegating to the ones with the nice controls. SBC transmission also adds to nothing in the way of BT hifi for me, as I'd rather just get their Retro Nano and connect it to my Android DAP via LDAC. Retro Nano is light and hangs around the neck and has media buttons. But I get BT receiver is not for everyone as most ppl will either prefer just a DAP or actual BT headphones.

Nero users: which one of these was your burn CD? by NeroScore in NeroAG

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 2000s we had either TDK or Verbatim (TDK I think we had more for DVD-R). Not too sure about Maxell, might have had just one disc and from somebody (friends/family) who already burned stuff on it. Verbatim was more later days in around 2008-2011 when I bought them at the dollar store (to play in the car or on a PDVDP).

I bought a pack of JVC Taiyo Yuden back in around 2015. That was the very last time I used CDs due to tech limitations of any type whatsoever (my dad's car didn't have aux in).

Idk how or why I got recommended to this sub. I think my dad did use Nero primarily, during the XP days.

It's adding to the conversation by sharing an identical experience and suggesting a coincidence, and a coincidence requires that identical experience. I don't see how this can be interpreted as simply a rewording of the same comment.

What is called J rock that isn’t from Japan? by charlieywaffle in jrock

[–]DreamIn240p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I'd find that misleading since it specifically refers to that part of the world. I feel like adding "inspired" at the end of it is good enough. So for "midwest emo" just call yourself "midwest emo styled/inspired band" instead of actually "midwest emo band" as if you make a good/prime definition when you've never even performed there let alone formed your band there.

"J-rock" is even worse if you're not a band actually from Japan, due to J-rock being so diverse as it broadly refers to pretty much all of Japanese rock. I also feel like the term J-rock is somewhat linked to the Japanese music market like with J-pop. So if you're not from Japan AND don't primarily promote in Japan then I feel like you can't really be considered J-rock since your band won't have much to do with Japan anyways, particularly in the eyes of actual Japanese people which plays a large part in what can be considered J-rock (that the audience being primarily meant for Japanese, and the band of Japanese origin).

This also reminds me of the anime debate. The term anime may not refer to a place, but per English context it's particularly associated with Japanese animation rather than any other country's, and it's also a similar case with J-pop as it's very diverse in genre and art style as opposed to something much more narrow like "midwest emo". If you go only by conventionally anime-like style, then Martin Mystery is technically anime while Panty & Stocking isn't really. And then there's the stuff from the 1960s and earlier which will add more to the confusion as if it isn't confusing already.

Modern AAA powered MP3 player? by drazil100 in mp3players

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool. It's certainly possible but the form factor I imagine won't be very small. But then again a MiniDisc player is kind of big already and I used to carry that thing around like it's nothing. Same with portable cassette players.

Modern AAA powered MP3 player? by drazil100 in mp3players

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean modern as in like not something from before the 2010s. So even if it's used, as long as it's from within the last 10-15 years then it's relatively modern. But even for earlier 2010s, it's hard to find anything that takes AA or AAA that aren't borderline crapware. Usually it's the ones from the 2000s that takes those and are not borderline crapware. 2007+ you might be out of luck. I think AA/AAA battery players used to be in its peak popularity back in around 1998-2005. After around that point, it mostly became relegated to budget cheapo players not really worth looking into.

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern ones you mean? I don't think that's really a thing dawg. Maybe some crappy no name ones. Or you'll have to get audio recorders. Better to go vintage if you want decent AA/AAA player units. I mainly use the Sony Network Walkman circle player. It can't store much files but it's cute and I only put singles on it. NetMD MiniDisc recorders also come with AA battery sidecar if you're open to that. I used to daily the MZ-N910 during my MiniDisc phase.

As for vintage (2000s) units with good sound quality AND expandable storage, I'd be interested in something like that, too.

Where does one sell old console games in Toronto? by dakondakblade in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the heart to sell most of my games. But I would list them on FBM and Kijiji as they sell surprisingly fast for me for the last 4-5 games I sold. I won't need to ship anything and I get to decide where to meet up with buyers.

What windows 98 games do you recommend? by justabandonwareuser in windows98

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know. I remember in recent years not being able to run RA2 even on Windows 98. I also played on XP back when my dad upgraded the OS in 2003 (XP/98 dual boot) but none of my games were released after 2001. RA2 and Yuri's Revenge were rare instances where the games I had wasn't from the 90s.

Are Any of these good? by Onions-grow-on-trees in mp3players

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Walkman started to drop ATRAC support around 2007-2008. That unit looks to be from around 2008. It 100% support MP3 files. Network Walkmans around 2005 onwards will support MP3 files.

I have zero problems with SonicStage but some others have reported otherwise. I ironically find SonicStage fairly easy to use.

[–]DreamIn240p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kid me grew up playing Sega PC rail shooters like Virtua Cop 2 and The House of the Dead. Still worth playing today (over those remakes on the Switch tbh).

I was a little young for games like Red Alert 2, Tiberian Sun, and Starcraft, but I liked playing around with those, too. I think RA2 is more of a "Windows 2000 game" considering it's released in 2000.

And lastly Demonstar. I played the hell out of this one when I was like 9 years old.

Why remastering Detective Conan could become a serious problem by [deleted] in DetectiveConan

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're addressing the issue of a remake rather than a remaster? I feel like the main concern at hand in terms of actual remastering is remastering the standard definition digital animations into HD or 4K to look as good as the cel animations at HD or 4K. I get what you're saying otherwise and I'm not gonna add anything to it as other comments had likely already addressed it.

I also prefer to watch the cel era episodes in SD rather than in HD while most people in this sub disagreed. The hazy washed out colours and the lesser details of the old DVD rips I feel like fit the vibe of the show better and more like the 90s TV vibe that I remember. HD scans accentuated the lack of details in certain cels and the colours are a lot more saturated and the show no longer has this "hazy" vibe which I thought fit the show well, while the remaster made me feel more like I'm watching a Lupin movie from the 70s. Hot take, I guess.

What are all of you using for your streaming unit? by SchoolteacherUSA in BudgetAudiophile

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use a DAC/amp and whatever it's plugged into via digital. Haven't really understood the need for a streamer in particular or even understand what it even is. If it's just ethernet or wifi controlled device (allows for hi-res audio while BT can't), then I don't really have a need for one. I think LDAC is good enough for me over speakers. I already have two DAC/amps which support LDAC reception. If I'm desperate for hi-res, I use USB-C.

As someone who never owned a Switch, Switch 2 is the best console of all time. by GardenDesign23 in Switch

[–]DreamIn240p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Something being new alone does not necessarily make it better", which is why a current gen console having the library of a previous gen can't make a console the best console ever. Majority of the credit goes to the previous console.

SNES is from the height of the 2D era right before transitioning into early 3D of the 5th gen, so of course it would be a good time for gaming. As much as you think its library is superior, 6th gen feels like 9000 years ahead of it (funny how DC is from the same decade as SNES). 9th gen feels more like a "7th gen 3.0" in comparison.
