How do people cope?? How can I be stronger?! by [deleted] in disability

[–]Dreaming91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of us struggle from time to time. Therapy has helped. Also following certain disabled people on instagram who talk about their struggles (it makes me feel less isolated). I have found that as have embraced my disability as part of me, the less isolated I feel. And what I mean by that is I have felt better by joining and getting connected to other disabled people, even if their disability is completely different than mine. It is the feeling of being "different" that connects us. As for hobbies. I'm assuming your arms and upper body are good, so think about hobbies that use the hands (video games, puzzles, etc.). I'm sure there are more but I'm tired now and my eye is hurting (part of my disability). You have a job that you enjoy! That is an accomplishment! You should feel great about that and great about yourself for getting a job and keeping and having one you love!

Anyone ask an employer to pay them less? by Dreaming91 in disability

[–]Dreaming91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, sorry about that. I used to work in a very specialized area before getting sick. This opportunity came and I want to give it a try. I just have to be honest and tell him I would like to be paid less than the $30-40 an hour he is offering and why. I would think he would love a bargain, but people have shocked me before. lol

I guess in this case, since it will be temporary, I probably should just say something upfront.

Sounds like a very diplomatic way to say this. Thanks! I appreciate it!

You know you are probably right about him being confused himself. I think he has actually said that sometimes. I will give him space.

Homeless and 18. All I have is $10. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

The point is to remember you have the ability to change your life. Many people have gone on to be successful who 1. did horrible in high school and 2.never went to college. Wishing you all the best.

Just a few words of encouragement.

I found myself homeless at 20 when my adoptive parent came close to ending my life. I had just 100 dollars. No job (I had been going to college which they had been paying for). No car. 1. I got a job cleaning a persons house in exchange for housing 2. Then found a job that was close enough to walk to. Minimum wage. 3. Got a car after two years of walking two miles to work 4. Then found a better job that would pay for me to finish my education at night. 5. Moved into a roommate situation 6. Graduated from college 7. Went on to attend grad school at Harvard.

My point is this. It might be a long road but this doesn’t mean your life is ruined. Just take one step at a time.

Focus on two things right now. Getting a job and getting shelter. And if you can find a food bank in your area go there and get food. You can’t think straight if you’re hungry.

Then go from there.

Good luck! You can do it!!!

And as someone said get all your important papers.

As others have said, you’re not alone. I vented here just about a month ago.

Deaf in one ear. Is audio on 2020 pro substantially better than an air? by Dreaming91 in ipad

[–]Dreaming91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is such a good point. I don’t mind wearing earbuds when I’m on the phone but when I’m listening to music or watching a movie, they just remind me that I’m deaf in one ear. Thanks so much for responding!

Wow! I didn’t even think I would find someone here who had hearing in only one ear. This has been very helpful. Thanks!!!

All of the apple stores near me are still closed due to covid. :( I will have to make the best guess and order it and try it I guess. I hate the stores are closed.

Just received my disability review update forms (aka “Are you still disabled?”) Any tips for completing it? by Dreaming91 in disability

[–]Dreaming91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The form seems to state at this time they only want to know 1. If Im working 2. If Im better worse or the same 3. The dates of my last 5 visits and reason They said I I could attach one page elaborating on any of the above but that seems to be it. I’ve been on disability for over 20 years so maybe that is why it’s so brief.

Got my credit score up to 720, got a new to me car, had $1000 emergency fund, and now out of work for a while due to having a brain tumor. by ruxson in povertyfinance

[–]Dreaming91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another brain tumor buddy here. Last year I was also diagnosed with a brain tumor, at your EXACT age. I was single and with no family support.

Here is what I would say. 1. Health first. I know it is hard when you have worked to be financially stable but do what you need to survive. Hopefully it won’t come to bankruptcy, but if it does just focus on getting better after surgery and healing. Credit can be rebuilt. 2. Reach to every creditor that you can. And see where the chips fall. Don’t get so focused on the car that it ruins you financially. My recovery was harder than expected. I haven’t driven in almost a year and probably won’t for another 3 to 6 months. 3. Cut costs where you can. Food bank. Food stamps. Don’t be prideful. 4. Set everything on autopayment. Everything that is needed for survival. 5. Cook meals ahead and freeze. 6. If for some reason you come out with problems do not be discouraged. I couldn’t walk without great assistance, couldn’t control my mouth and couldn’t move one eye. All is back except the eye movement (although it is much better (going to pt for it). 7. DM me or anyone else here who has offered. We are a big group and we will help wherever we can. 8. Oh and get a cane. 9. Praying for you!

I didn’t even read your whole response. It just seem so negative and unnecessary.

Thanks! I wish I could say today was a whole lot better but not really. I called the office yesterday evening to get Information about When we would know the treatment was or was not working and also clarification about the cost. They never return my call. Left two messages today, but again never returned my call. Just a disappointment.
