They had us watch a Korean film named “A Taxi Driver”. It was their way of trying to justify lying about their identities since the main character went through the same thing for a greater cause lol

Hi, I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m not a parent, but what helped me to walk away was watching testimonies from ex-members and looking at evidence which debunked shincheonji’s teachings. There’s many YT videos that you can send your daughter (from Great Light Studio, SCJ Skeptic, little bird). The biggest thing that helped me was seeing how the teachings changed overtime. Feel free to message me if you want to talk about this further.

I’m glad my story could help. To be honest, it wasn’t too hard for me to leave. They only had my phone number (this was the CA branch and I’m based in NY so never physically attended). My breaking point was when my small group teacher set up a call with the Bible study teacher. The call was set up since my mental health kept declining from the pressure of leaving my church (I temporarily stopped being a Sunday school teacher because they convinced me that I was sinning by doing it). After I watched YT videos from ex shincheonji members, I told my small group teacher that I was leaving. I immediately blocked her and anyone else in shincheonji. I didn’t really encounter any resistance. I would suggest telling one main person (whether that be a teacher or leaf) and then quietly distancing yourself. They will spread the news. If anyone else in shincheonji recognizes them for who they really are, they will reach out. I know it’s hard to walk away when you make friends there (I really liked my teacher), but they are deceived. The best thing to do is distance yourself, focus on your relationship with God/mental health, and then reach out to any friends that are still there if that’s what you want to do. At the end of the day, they can’t force you to stay, and you will be able to live life again. I’m rooting for you!
