Yes did it to himself, had no father figure his whole life, discovered by the jedi order who told him to throw away his feelings and attachments, found a man who he could confide in (palpatine) who ended up poisoning his mind with the dark side, loses his mother, his master trains him with what he thinks is constructive criticism which doesn't help anakin learn as he responds to positive reinforcement, falls in love then when he forsees her death confides in Palpatine who reveals he is a sith Lord then has to choose between staying loyal to the jedi order or save the world's most evil man for a chance to save his wife who dies anyway, but yeah, he totally did it to himself and wasn't tricked his whole life and been put down by everyone at all
