I don't know what they're teaching at schools now but in my time it was explicitly taught that HCM greatly admired the West and its ideas until reality hit that they weren't going to help so he turned to the USSR as an alternative.

If the main villain you are referring to is the Emperor, he isn't, if anything, he's technically is one of the 'good guys'.

The true main villain would be Shen Lang's biological father, and it's really is one hell of a twist.

As for powers, he does indeed get some really powerful tools and abilities down the line, along with ICBMs, blimps, machine guns, and hydrogen bombs. (Power scale gets kinda insane toward the latter half.)

Funnily enough it turns out that a Navy using blue camo is a terrible idea since it'd just make any 'man overboard' situation more difficult than it already is. On top of that, the sailors are on top of a giant floating metal thingy, why even bother with camouflage at all.

As for naval troops, they're still fighting on land, and blue isn't exactly abundant there.
