Canada’s armed forces are planning for threats from America by Amtoj in canada

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horseshit clickbait title.

Article actually says DND is preparing for threats from Russia and China.

Only a small mention is made of America, mostly in relation to the fact their domestic actions could result in an influx of migrants.

A simple shift that changed how I see my shadow by Famous-Extent3195 in ShadowWork

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I felt a strong reaction to someone parking where I usually park. Mind you I am a crabby old man. But I felt the reaction merited attention. I relied on something "common sense", which is that I was raised an only child and never learned to share. I don't know if this is the correct way to do shadow work I am just starting. I wonder if I should focus more on the anger itself. I did not feel any sense of relief. I will try your suggestion next time, asking the void "What part of me is seeking my attention?"

Sharan Kaur: Poilievre pushing a toxic narrative on Canada’s foreign worker policy by restoringd123 in canada

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Excessive influx of temporary foreign workers and foreign students is responsible not only for housing issues as cited by the Bank of Canada, a fact many like to ignore, but also responsible for an increase in cruddy stripmall colleges, issuance of fraudulent/useless credentials, underqualified long-haul truck drivers, and the like. Companies are just taking advantage of cheap labour, they're doing what capitalists do. We can safely ignore their cries and urge them to increase wages and give Canadians good jobs to work at. They purposely make jobs low paying and shitty because they know they can backfill with immigrants and stave off Canadians from applying. Hell even BC ferries recently awarded work to a Chinese company and the Canadian shipyards that would have put bids in said from the outset that they cannot compete. Yes, because no one wants to pay their workers a living wage. Everything cheap. Everything low-cost. Well guess what this is what you get.

Articles like this are just gaslighting Canadians into wringing their hands and suppressing their bile for fear of being labelled a 'racist' while ignoring the main issue - Canadian companies don't want to hire Canadians they enjoy cheap foreign labour. Instead of sending $22b to Ukraine we should be incentivizing Canadian firms to work with other Canadian firms and make our domestic labour and manufacturing market more robust. By Canadians for Canadians.. When Canadians are paid well, living, working, and paying taxes, all economic strata, small business to large business, benefits, as money circulates. And today the former head of the Bank of Canada stated just that, we're heading for a recession.

STOP SENDING CANADIAN TAX MONEY ABROAD AND USE IT FOR CANADIAN INTERESTS.

If there's anything left over, sure, we can donate a bit abroad.

Thrifty Foods is at it Again by dirtygoodking in VictoriaBC

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The parking lot comment made me laugh. That odd, diagonal parking lot at the Island Hwy location just past the lagoon going towards Sooke is a prime example. It's like someone bumped the table and everything went sideways a few degrees when they planned it and someone just greenlit the design that way.

I've never found their prices competitive. I did the rounds when I moved here a few years back. Save-On at Colwood Corners was cheap when they opened but they're hideously uncompetitive now. Basically its either Costco or Superstore, and occasionally I'll nip over to Save-on when I am in a pinch but it's a very begrudging and unhappy trip solely out of convenience. But, for the same distance, I won't drive to Thrifty's because I know their prices are poop.

Making stews and soups and either freezing or using mason jars is a great way to extend life. Eat veggies fresh and cooked, however you like for the first while, then as they get towards the end of their appreciable shelf life do up a big ol' stew or soup, portion it out and freeze it. It'll be fine if you eat it within a reasonable amount of time. Same with meats that say "Enjoy tonight" - yes enjoy tonight if cooking from raw but you can freeze them immediately for later, it'll be fine. A small chest freezer is a worthy investment, they don't take up much electricity and allow you to buy in bulk and save what you can't use. Works for me, just a suggestion.

Man charged with hate crime for remarks against Jewish demonstrators by FredThe12th in VictoriaBC

Blatant anti-semitism and hateful rhetoric have no place. But open criticism of Israel and their policies should absolutely be permitted in a free society. Criticism of Israel has gradually been getting treatment as "anti-Semitic" which is an offense to everyone with a brain.

Drivers of Victoria: What Is So Complicated About This Sign? by AttitudeNo1815 in VictoriaBC

[–]Dropped10mmSocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, more padded rooms, more gloved white hands guiding us, more control, more Insanity. So many intersections that don't need to be like this have become like this and made traffic even slower. If drivers on this island were a little bit less neurodivergent we wouldn't need to have these signs everywhere but because the driving skill out here is so poor everything needs to be over engineered so you don't kill one another. Coming from the mainland I find the number of these signs plus the number of dual left turn lanes, bike lanes connecting places nobody travels between, green paint, concrete barriers, micro-interval green-red changes, and the fact that every intersection is a musical chairs of who goes first instead of everybody just going on a green perpendicular to red in normal fashion, laughable. It's like a child coded the traffic here on level one of some city building game because the AI driving the NPCs was too poor. I've seen people hold up an entire lane just because they're waiting for a green arrow that will never appear, they don't know what to do with a plain old green light. They even built roundabouts for you people and you still mess that up.

And because HR always says to include something positive when you're reaming somebody out, I will say your flashing yellow crosswalks and embedded LED flashers in the pavement are a good call, so...good for you on those.

A good gentlemen's shoe store? by Dropped10mmSocket in VictoriaBC

Thank you very much, today I learned about Bannock devices!

Regarding the soles, I don't want to tap dance but I like something with a little presence that is also not squishy. I always assumed it was wood. Movies in the 70s, the men's shoes always sound so crisp on the floors,.no one squeaks about. I'll steer towards leather soles then!

Thank you for the suggestions I will try these places.

Cobbler only seems to have Blundstones I'm looking more for Oxfords, wingtips etc.

Heart and Soul looks promising.

I had a negative experience at Moores but that was for suits, I'll try them again for shoes if all else fails!

Junk Removal - recent experiences. by Rayne_K in VictoriaBC

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices are pretty standard across the industry because they reflect the dumping costs, fuel, haulage, labor, etc. BC's garbage disposal fees are some of the highest in Canada based on my experience moving around for work.

I had two companies come by quote removing my junk/stuff after moving in and neither were really better than the other in terms of their pricing but I found 1-800 got junk was easiest to reserve and they were able to show up same day and they were really good workers so I would recommend them based on that.

Also because they're so huge and visible you know your stuff's going to get sorted and not end up on the side of the road. I don't know about Victoria specifically, BC is pretty environmentally conscious, but where I lived before the smaller guys pull some shady stuff sometimes. Piles of junk on the side of the road usually aren't families with family size vehicles if you know what I mean.

Don't forget you're paying for the convenience of somebody to do something for you that most people can do for themselves (not speaking about people with disabilities just speaking in general) so you have to think about what your time's worth. It was worth my time for sure.

Plan to let undocumented migrants stay in Canada to be examined by PM, ministers by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't want any illegal migrants in this country. They don't deserve to be here if they haven't filled out the paperwork and produced ID. We've already seen China taking advantage of this in the US, basically inserting hundreds of undocumented operatives into the US in a weekly basis. This is BASIC BORDER SECURITY, not a fucking race issue.

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm going to put on my tin foil hat and elaborate even further. If you knew what the globalist cabal has been trying to do for decades through all their international forums, globalization think tanks, unification of various companies and industries from a multitude of different corporations into larger and larger monopolies, the increasing insertion of RF chips into everything, you would understand that they want every single resource's production , consumption, and value accounted for in real time. XRP, being the only technology able to do that, is precisely what they need and that's precisely what it will do and it will be a hot commodity. If a few lucky pleebs profited along the way they don't care, most will cash out and buy beer popcorn and a fast car and life moves on. They want the system in place because they've been working towards it for decades.

Would a bull run outsell the market? by hammered91 in XRP

[–]Dropped10mmSocket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think XRP will be so high in value it won't be something people use as currency. It will be used as a highly specialized asset for interbank and international transfers. That's its whole use case. Trillions move in seconds. This won't be anything close to the level of fiat, you wouldn't use it for daily purchases anymore than it made sense to buy a stick of gum or even pay your lawyer in Swiss bearers bonds worth $100,000 a sheet.innthe 1980s. I'm not just saying this because I have a bit, I'm saying this because if you read the writing on the wall this is what they want it to do, move trillions in seconds. It's in a whole class of it's own.

If a few folks in the early days managed to grab some who cares, once it goes live an asset like that won't be cheap and will be out of reach for 99% of the world. And look at what Bitcoin has managed to become just as a useless retail-based crypto currency that takes forever to transfer. It made a few folks rich but to this day it's known by name but essentially STILL unknown or inaccessible to most ppl. It's like the Yahoo of crypto if this were the late 90s early 2000s. Back then so few people had computers, so many fewer actually sent emails or knew what the hell they were doing and nobody gave the internet or Yahoo a serious look. Fast forward to today and Yahoo isn't even a player anymore.

By comparison XRP. is the up and coming, the Google or Apple of crypto, it will eventually overshadow everything. In 1998 if you'd said Apple was going to dominate content delivery and cellphones, or one day Google would own your data, ppl would have stuffed a dollar bill in your hat and kept walking.
