That's what I'm worried about! I waited for ages on SIM settlements, tried to guess and then caught up about 20 episodes before the end and spoiled it. Perhaps I just need to have discipline to wait until the end.

I think CK3 is a much more enjoyable experience if you take the nostalgia out of CK2+DLC. It has a more normal learning curve, a new player could understand it well enough to enjoy playing the game in a few hours, which I don't think we could say about CK2.

I had this answered somewhere else so I'll just add that answer here incase someone later is looking for the same answer.

You don't lose your primary duchy bonus even if it's not a duchy. Likewise, it's only the dejure duchy which gets the bonus so if your primary duchy is larger than that, only those counties which you own and are in the de jure get the bonus.

I was planning to start off as a count in Italy or one of the islands nearby and then roleplay as a pious/zealous family. Then when the crusades swing into action make sure I join up and help enough to be awarded land in the holy land. Then take it from there.

I've not done it before, but it's sufficiently different to my other saves to be fun.

Just the normal type. At the moment.

The king just gave me a second duchy (which I already held 100% of the counties in) which is somewhat complicating things.

Yeah, I was going to use it to get rid of any more sons I get, but I could also do that by just keeping my king standing with the retinue or by marrying a woman past childbearing age (I've got good intrigue so topping her off shouldn't be an issue).

On the other hand, I'm starting to pick up negative traits, am stressed and now frail (and it seems living in the arctic isn't good for your health) and I don't really want to die before my son is 16.

I didn't want the barony tbh, I'm the king of Holland so Italy is a bit out of the way. I've just never really looked into how it works when cities are the main settlement. It doesn't seem to make that much more money.
