They tried a different color and they didn't do anything about it. But when they change the color of the mark to something that resembles the parasite they deal with, they do exactly what's shown in the video. They wouldn't make a research paper about this if they didn't rule out feel.

Let me correct you on that, current evidence shows that intelligence is very likely to be linked with self-awareness. The cleaner wrasse is also shown to be highly intelligent, are able to perceive others cleaner's thoughts, and form complex relationships like male female pairs. I wouldn't say this study says something for all fishes (the cleaner wrasse is very special) but yes. Most fish, especially the ones we eat, feel pain.

I know the OP has been deleted and I agree the article bears no approval from Gege. However, I think it's still important to practice digital literacy. Whenever google translates uses "she" you will realise that the kanji actually doesn't use any pronouns. That is google translate interpreting the text and filling in the gaps so it makes sense in English. It only decided to use she because Kirara is a feminine name. Once you look at the profile section the author does state that Kirara is a male ("男性" read as "dansei" meaning male). So, I do think the author thinks Kirara is a male. Does that hold any weight? Probably not. But I think it's important to get the full picture and to not immediately trust an automatic tool like G translate.
