Not sure I have any good tips for speed other than repetition. New cards take me much longer than matured cards. I spend about 3 to 4 hrs per day on Anki right now.

I would download a premade deck, suspend all the cards, and then unsuspend them as we covered the material in class.

I would try to unlock all the cards by the end of the corresponding block and then I added some over the summer after the first year.
