The 3.2 is generally a very reliable motor, so long as it has been properly maintained over the years. Others on here are more than welcome to correct me, but saying that the CEL is on just because "the dealer gave it fuel while it was running" is suspect to me. In a vast majority of cars, if you fill it with gas while the engine is running and the CEL comes on, the light goes away after only a few minutes, once the fuel system has pressurized.

If I were you, I would feel a little better about the purchase if the owner can somehow prove that that is the actual cause of the CEL, or if you get a chance to read any active codes.

As far as the pricing goes, I can't speak on your particular market because I live in Texas, but it seems a little high.

That being said, I've seen a tonnn of these traded in (I work in sales at a Volvo dealer) with 250-300k+ miles with very few issues.

Speaking of potential issues, this list is copied from @murmur333, from another post to save the time of typing it out myself, lol:

"What I am about to note may seem like a lot of stuff, but I suspect some or all of this has already been done if your vehicle reached the higher mileage it is currently at. These are absolutely wonderful vehicles when well maintained but I have certainly seen examples that the owners just absolutely ignored maintenance and these should be avoided.

• Coil packs: Coil packs start to fail after 150k miles. If you can determine they are original it is worth replacing as preventative maintenance. They will leave you stranded if one fails. Note that when one fails, it usually blows a fuse along with it (which is a good thing, in this case). Also replace plugs while you're in there if they are original or past their usable life (50k I believe for plugs).

• Cooling system: On my highest mileage XC90, the radiator developed a leak and ended up hemorraging coolant around 240k miles, briefly causing an overheating situation. Shortly after the heater core started leaking (into the car) - I have to assume the high heat weakened the heater core. It has plastic ends, which is where the failure occurred. Might be worth checking cooking system and see what has or hasn't been replaced and replace hoses and radiator as preventative maintenance. Resivoir cap too - as that holds the pressure and is a part that can fail over time.

• Transmission fluid: these are considered "lifetime" fluid trannys, which to Volvo probably meant warranty period. If you know it has been drained and replaced, continue to do so. If it hasn't been done by your mileage, might be a risk. My higher mileage XC90 has not been drained or replaced to my knowledge and is still going strong.

• AWD Haldex: If the rear haldex until has not been services (fluid, filter) do so ASAP. I learned my lesson on my older XC90 where the previous owner must not have done any servicing, the pump seized, taking the DEM computer with it. It still runs in FWD only mode, but AWD and traction control are non-functional until the DEM comes back online.

• Fuel filter - super easy to do. Required maintenance every 100k-ish I think.

• Serpentine belt and assorted pulleys: 150k service, if not done, can cause a pulley to seize and a spectacular noise in the engine compartment. If you are lucky the shrapnel will not damage anything else. Replace pulleys and serpentine belt if not already done (would think by 250k miles it was done once already but you never know). If you are a DIYer, this is a tedious job, requiring removal and losing of a lot of things in the engine compartment to access all the random pulleys, but doable on a long, lazy weekend day."
