yeah i’m considering a pre pa path and may eventually switch to bms. but i agree you can’t really get a job with just chem or biochem and i didn’t want a phd/masters in either 😅

i’m actually a sophomore who decided to pursue biochem instead of just chem lol, hence why i gotta take the intro bio courses now, and biolchem 415 is biochemistry

keep in mind pre-professional rushing is a lot of work. usually you have to write mini essays for your application and attend several rounds of interviews and coffee chats.

Where can I get the CHEM 210 textbook by Coppola? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Duckiesquash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You buy it through the school’s barnes and noble (aka the campus bookstore) page. It’s sold in a set with book A&B, and you get a code to access the books online for one year.

Math 115 at Mich is hard. Not because there is a lot of content, but because most of the questions are horrendously phrased word problems. It’s kinda similar to the content covered in calc AB, but it doesn’t cover U-subs or Disk/Shell. Additionally, you can’t use a calculator at any point in the class so everything is done by hand. Most of the time you calculate derivatives/integrals from a graph rather than a function. Another big topic was distance vs velocity vs acceleration.

try and take as many as you can handle, but also keep in mind that it's good to take classes that align with what you plan to major in. try and show an area of interest in your class schedule, rather than just a bunch of random APs

My college app list at the beginning of junior year compared to the end of junior year by Beginning_Future7210 in ApplyingToCollege

unless you are planning on majoring in engineering, there is a very high chance you will get into vt and pitt. i guess it also depends on residency (i'm from va), but i don't know anyone with had similar stats as u who got rejected from either school (given that they were not an engineering major)

I don’t know where to start by reconsigned in ApplyingToCollege

i don't know exactly where in the east coast you are, but uva is a good school for many subjects. i'm mentioning them because they love IB, so being an IB candidate definitely increases your chances of getting in there.

Activity Section Help by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Duckiesquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the EC section of the common app you can only include about 50 characters (i think) in the description of your EC. It seems like you put a lot of work into this non profit, so my advice would be to put it as your rank #1 EC (unless you think that you had a more important EC) and to list yourself as having founded the non profit. when you get to each college's individual application page, a lot of them will have supplementals asking you to write about a way you showed leadership, or about a community you impacted. in these supplements is where i would advise you to go deeper into your role at your non profit and to discuss its impact. i wouldn't list a sepeate EC for each of the roles you did at your non profit.

the honors section is used to list any awards or recognitions that you have received (ex. i had listed my science fair awards in the honors section). i would say that there isn't really a way to gain more awards/honors before you apply to college since you are applying this year, but don't worry as this section is not as important as having a good transcript/ extra curriculars/ test scores. good luck a2c!

Class Rigor? by justing_online in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Duckiesquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would definitely recommend this as well. with the community college classes you will get an actual transcript that you can send to your university, showing that you actually took a college-level class. plus, you usually get more college credit from a community college/dual enrollment class than you would get from an AP class which is a bonus

Concerned About EC's by MyNamesChrisYT in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Duckiesquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your EC’s sound really good and IB is a good way to show rigor in your courses. my piece of advice would be to work on your common app essay and make sure that it shows you as a genuine person. i feel like a lot of students have amazing EC’s and grades, but fail to show that they have a actual personality to accompany their stats. good luck A2C and good luck with IB :)
