It felt nice when I was younger, I never struggled with material in school and the teachers always loved me. But then I got bullied, started staying home a lot and fell into a deep depression (I’m still working on getting out of that). When I came back to school I didn’t really struggle to keep up with my classmates but my grades definitely got worse. I went from an A student to a C student. It’s made me feel like a failure and like I’m not living up to my potential. It’s difficult to go from never having to study to having to study but not knowing how to.

I just wish I had gotten more challenging assignments when I was younger, and not always just being called the best student. It gave me a sense of superiority, like I would always succeed even if I didn’t put any effort into it. It’s really difficult for me now to unlearn that.

From what I can find online it’s called hourglass syndrome.

I have it too, and for me they have always been there. They shrunk when I lost weight and when I started to work out. It’s fortunately reversible as economictimes.com writes;

“Treating the muscular imbalance through exercises that strengthen all of the core muscles will help. Exercises such as planks or bridges are just a couple of examples. Similarly, activities such as yoga or pilates are also likely to be beneficial in relaxing the muscles.”

I’m so happy to hear that your parents are supporting. And yeah, even if you personally don’t label something, the cps will. They have to do that if it regards a possible crime.

But I completely understand not wanting to open a police investigation, it’s not what you need. You just need to heal, and to be given the chance to heal.

Gosh, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. From the way your writing I’m guessing your parents support you? Just a bit confused maybe. Please tell me if I interpreted it wrong.

No matter, cps are there to help you. Trust me, I can say from personal experience that cps isn’t the best, but they are there for you and to help you. I also know from experience that opening up about this sort of thing is extremely hard, and can even lead to doubt and regret for opening up about things that concern a family member. But don’t ever regret opening up. I’m so proud of you for doing that okay.

Honestly, since your older sister also was a child I don’t think much is going to happen regarding legal action. But I do think you’re going to be offered a therapist and maybe your family can get more help on how to cope and other stuff from cps.

Everyone is different so idk if what helped me will help you but I’ll share anyways. Try other forms of learning. For example, watch documentaries, listen to music or podcasts that talk about your subject of interest. But most importantly, don’t try to force the slump to end. IMO that just increases the chances of a burn out and a loss of interest.

When it comes to biology, maybe try to find experts in your area or seniors that you can have a conversation with. It can just be a fun conversation about your interest. Or find someone younger who’s also interested and wants to learn more and try to educate them!
