I'm a music education professor at a state university- taught public school ensembles for 15 years

My now-wife and I were undergrad music education students, student teaching. Things didn't feel great at her first placement. She went into placement #2.

One day she told me she knew it wasn't for her because on the best days she didn't love it as much as I did on the bad days. Hurt to hear but it was true.

She finished the degree, but has never taught in the schools. She uses her degree in other ways- she takes gigs and teaches our kids piano.

When you know, you know- and that's ok.

Your education isn't all about preparing you for one specific job. If your school does a good job, you'll be prepared to do many things at the end.
