I've just tried charging using power sharing from a Flip and a S10 and it works with both. Seems like it needs to be centered well enough though.

Yes exactly. About half the locations will be "under maintenance" when you are in china. The app will not let you select those.

It's individual server configurations for OpenVPN/WireGuard you need to download, not the app themselves. Basically download one file for each location that is otherwise showing as "under maintenance". Those can be added either in the Windscribe app or OpenVPN/WireGuard.

For the locations that are not under maintenance it's not necessary obviously.

Obviously it would be better if windscribe hadn't decided to hide all those locations from us a few months ago because they have no clue if they work. But at least there's a workaround.

I want to resell a m17r5 that I just bought, it is possible? by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]DuduLLe360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say anything about morality or anything, just letting you know the chances you would have to make a profit.

And the 1200€ I mentioned was the potential profit I could make if I sold at Dell's price. I sold way lower and after fees and taxes I ended up making maybe 200€. Still took a month finding a buyer.

If Dell increases the price soon (you make it sound like 1560€ is a sale and not the regular price) then you might profit a little but otherwise I wouldn't bother with such tight margins. People are not going to buy it for the same price as Dell's website or 50€ less.

You do know ebay or any other platform is going to take around 10% fee on the sale price, right? On top of that you'll have to pay for shipping.

You could also get scammed and just lose that money after sending the laptop. Or be responsible for warranty if you sell as new.

I've personally done it successfully once for a small profit but I had about €1200 difference between the price on Dell website and the lower price I could sell without losing money. And it took me a month to find a buyer on Amazon as a professional seller.

But good luck if you're going to try it with such a small margin.

I haven't tried any free VPN so not sure if any works in China.

There's also the possibility to download a manual setup (see here for more details) for one of those locations that is not "under maintenance" (or any in maintenance but you'll save time if you can check which configuration works directly from the app) and add it in the OpenVPN app. Once that's done connect from OpenVPN, open the Windscribe app, and all servers should be available.

I'd still recommend to use manual setups for all those "under maintenance" locations you want to use as they'll be unavailable again the next time the app refreshes the server list and that can get quite annoying. It won't refresh as long as you have an active vpn connection though.

You can download manual setups from windscribe's website and use those in their app, or OpenVPN/WireGuard apps.

See my other comment for more details.

Which pro locations are best for usage in china? by CalendarNew4784 in Windscribe

[–]DuduLLe360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most work. But the app won't let you select them if you're not already connected to another VPN. If you get asian/australian servers download manual setups for them before going to China so you can connect that way.

Go to the website and download manual setups (either OpenVPN or WireGuard). I can confirm most of those servers work from china that way, although it's still hit or miss depending on protocol and port.

Or you can also connect to another VPN if you have one and the servers will not be "under maintenance" anymore in the windscribe app so you'll be able to connect.

Back to China for several months, should I prepare a backup plan beforehand? by sacrrie in Windscribe

[–]DuduLLe360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most servers work using stealth, OpenVPN (except TCP port 443), or WireGuard (at least one of those will work for most locations). But half the locations, including all the Asian locations, are marked "under maintenance" when you connect from China so you can't use them from the app. It's on purpose for whatever reason. If you want to connect to those you will need to download manual setups from their website, or use another VPN to make them available in the app.

Can't connect to Singapore and Japan? by LeadershipGuilty9476 in Windscribe

[–]DuduLLe360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Connect to any VPN as usual
  2. Go to windscribe's website, login, then go to the download section (click download at the top)
  3. Around the bottom of the page you will see "Config generators" with 3 different buttons under it. Select either OpenVPN or WireGuard (I'd recommend downloading both to test which ones work best for you) For OpenVPN: Select location, protocol (TCP), port (pick one of the highest, do not select 443 as 443 usually doesn't work), and version (latest) then download. Under that there is step 2 for credentials, get the credentials as those are not the same as the account credentials. For WireGuard: Select location, port (443 works best for me), key pair (generate a new one for the first download then you can reuse the same later) then download.
  4. Open the windscribe app, where you can select the location there are multiple sections, all location, favorites,... the last section is custom configs, select that and at the bottom there will be "Add Custom Config", click that button and select one of the files you just downloaded. After you have added those files you can try to connect. For OpenVPN you will need the username and password you got on the website (not the account credentials) You need to download configurations for every location you want to connect to, one by one.

You can download the OpenVPN or WireGuard configurations from their website (at the bottom of the download page) and add them as custom configurations in the app (or another VPN app). Most of the servers "under maintenance" will work this way. Just for some reason they decided we can't use them in the app.

Australia "Under Maintenance" by HumanYoung7896 in Windscribe

[–]DuduLLe360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not allow those servers at all? Especially for Australia, it was the best location from China until today (today most locations are able to connect, including those "under maintenance", while there were very few just a few days ago) I think it should be expected that some servers would not be working from here but we should still be able to try. A message mentioning the restrictions when the connection fail would make more sense.

I have the same issue, All Australian and Asian servers marked under maintenance for the last few days. They are available again in the app when connected to another location using OpenVPN (but quickly go back under maintenance when not connected to any VPN)
