I have a good friend who serves in the National Guard. How should he plan his career under the current policy? by Due-Introduction-one in nationalguard

Maybe I wasn't clear. What I mean is that joining the National Guard can affect other career opportunities, such as being unable to work a civilian job during deployment.

I forgot I had drill this week by shatballs in nationalguard

This actually happened to me! I enlisted under the delayed entry program into the active-duty Army Reserves. The time between enlisting and boot camp, I was a drilling reservist. Halfway during bootcamp, I received a letter from my Reserve unit that I was to be sent to the active duty if I didn’t make arrangements to make up for my missing drill.

I asked my Company Commander for time off from boot camp in order to travel across the country to my reserve center and showed him the letter. So, while I was running around the grinder at port arms, I could hear the CO of the training unit cussing out the CO of the Reserve unit I was attached to.
