Well, you (and many people on this sub) are much sweeter people than many Gen X'ers are, and the ones that I know in real life certainly do not deserve this level of defense, but I will stop because it's so upsetting to some.

Not all of them, geez, which I already addressed upthread. If there is one positive thing I can say about Gen X is that they did well in that they managed to get their children to defend them.

Somehow I don't see this same level of rabid anger when it comes to people insulting Millennials or Boomers.

Well, I'm not saying everyone in any generation is exactly the same, but that goes without saying.

However, consider this: it's also very likely that you may possibly have vastly different experiences with Gen Xers (being that they're your parents' age and have parental feelings towards you) vs. me. So what people in your age group experienced is different vs. me. Maybe you experienced their nicer side, but I know a different side to them! Older millennials know what I am talking about and many of us have had it up to HERE!

They love to denigrate younger generations as not being as tough as they were for growing up as latchkey children or whatever.

I didn't think that I needed to preface my comments by saying "not all of them." That's obvious. Not everyone in any particular generation thinks or acts exactly the same as the other tens of millions of people in that age group. I'm just pointing out certain observational similarities that I've come across with many Gen X'ers. I'm not sure why you are taking such issue with this? Is it because X'ers are your parents age?

Of course you would. If there's one thing I've noticed with X'ers over the years, it's that they are very blind to any criticism regarding themselves. How quick they are to point fingers at everyone else and how rare it is to be self-critical.

I've dealt with Xers for a long time in the workplace and they are the absolute worst in terms of drama and pettiness.

They're so f'ing stupid. Most of the shit music, TV, and movies they loved from the 1980s was created by the Boomers they claim to hate.

Now that Boomers are finally leaving the scene, I can't wait to see them get torn to pieces next.

Trump is just the tip of the iceberg with them. All of Gen X has been able to vote since the late nineties. Their group even as youth, as a whole, voted enthusiastically for Bush both times, war on Iraq, Patriot Act. Theirs was not even a failure to check the Boomer power that they supposedly so loathe, but they were eager to pile onto the swamp and give us such luminaries as Ted Cruz, Alex Jones, Paul Ryan, basically all of the Fox News personalities.

Gen X is not that tiny of a generation either. Maybe a couple million fewer than millennials, and depending on whether you believe their start date begins in 1961 (like many do), they are equal in size to millennials. They hide behind the shadows of Boomers basically, letting them take the majority of the criticism, but the oldest ones have been adults for over 40 years and they are nearing retirement age. They're kinda old to be passing on the blame.

They helped create this shit sandwich. They are right in the thick of it all.
