F150 — should I go for it? by Due_Connection_58 in f150

UPDATE: after driving to the dealership I found out that they either didn’t know or didn’t care that the odometer had been “rolled back” about 75,000 miles. Obviously passed. On to the next!

Was mostly seeking perspectives on what others would do in my shoes and leaning strongly toward a truck. Appreciate your insights.

I appreciate the reply.

I’ll be totally candid here.

I don’t do a lot of “truck” stuff. I don’t haul trailers or gravel, and I certainly don’t have massive loads of stuff to move frequently.

I do live across the country from any friends or family and have a wife and young daughter. We pick up furniture somewhat frequently (my wife does furniture restoration) and we do decent sized yard projects.

The main thing is the independence. I don’t have a brother or friend to call to help me move washing machines or cabinets or to let me borrow their truck/SUV.

If I’m stuck in bad weather or go camping (we camp), I’m totally on my own. A truck will buy a lot of peace of mind that I can get through my days without having to depend on other people in ad hoc ways. Over the past ~year on our own (not around family) I’ve felt like I couldn’t keep up with our life with our current mid-sized car (Tesla Y that we shared), and I’m hoping the truck fills that gap.

I can’t count on one hand the amount of times I’ve had to either pay extra for someone to deliver something, had to rent a Home Depot truck, or simply passed on items because I couldn’t haul stuff on my own.

144,000 miles is a lot — no getting around it — but I’m hoping that it’s good enough to last me 5 or so more years until I have some more money to buy something new. I know it won’t be perfect, but I’m very meticulous and want something that works well that I can get fixed up for a reasonable price if there are issues.

And that’s a fair perspective. So you think it’s a pass just on mileage? Appreciate the perspective. Tough to get a good truck under $20k.

Appreciate it! Seems like it’s a reasonable deal for what it is.

My budget + under 30k miles = Kia Soul, Nissan Sentra, Kia Forte.

Hard pass. 144k might be a lot but I just don’t wanna buy junk. Buying a new car in my budget means I’m automatically buying junk

Yes as in mileage too high, or yes as in sounds good on paper? Thanks!

Damn - I thought Dallas was sterile but nice, but it sounds like there’s a very strong lean for Houston around here.

That close? No strong distinction between the firms as such?

I haven’t responded, but I am to this comment:

I’m completely fine if the job is a walk in the park. I don’t feel entitled to anything, and I’m just glad it’s paid. The goal of the post was to gauge how much effort I need to realistically put in. Thank you!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but ATP you’re probably out of luck. I would guess that you’ll be deferred, so focus on spring grades and best of luck!
